A Note on Fidelity Audio

After one of the worst and best experiences in dealing with audio vendors, I thought I would pen this little note to the community

I had been entertaining the idea of going balanced for awhile now and after reading about some head-fiers experiences with the balanced outs on the back of the Lavry DA10 I thought I would give it a shot ... given that i am cheap and the price of aftermarket senn balanced cables are through the roof I sniffed out Fidelity Audio's offerings (the other month they were 150 for a 2 meter pair w FS) ... so on July 10th I ordered them from the Canadian company and they didnt arrive by the time of my vacation 3 weeks later ... to make a long story short, by the time I got back yesterday (about 6-7 weeks in total), they still aren't here !!! It is interesting that I ordered tubes from bulgaria and caps from Japan AT THE SAME TIME and they both arrived in 2 and 3 weeks respectively; it seems customs with our friends to the north is abysmal ... at any rate, I was going ape s**t and expected to get the run around from Rick Warren at Fidelity but he emailed me back right away and promised to get me a new pair (FOR NO CHARGE) out the next day ... as to whether or not this pair materializes I will keep fellow headfiers updated, but needless to say it seems this company knows how to do business and prides itself on its ethic and customer satisfaction ... after thinking of nightmare scenarios in my head and the many ways I would flame this guy I am happy to say he surprised me --- and in my experience people rarely do that ... Kudos to Fidelity Audio !!!

Well, after Rick (allegedly) resent my cable for the second time it still hasn't arrived almost 3 weeks later ... while his communication has been good, I must confess that I am at the end of my rope ... I'm beginning to wonder if my renewed faith in this guy was misplaced and I am entertaining options about resolutions to this matter pending Rick's response to my queries

Hey man, don't worry, I don't think Rick is trying to scam anyone. I am having the same issue with another Canadian vendor- in fact, if you replaced "cables" with the product I was supposed to receive, it would be the exact same story. I think there are problems with Canadian-US customs is all.

Update ... Rick replied to my email and assured me that the cable would arrive by next week with a freebie adapter ... we'll see

To avoid from writing it all again, some feedback from me and another fellow Head-Fier can be found in this thread:

well after finally getting my Senn Balanced Cable a couple weeks ago I wanted to jot down some final thoughts ... (1) after approx 2-3 months of "dancing" with Rick, I will never order anything from Fidelity again, despite an offer of 50% off of a future purchase, (2) despite promises of extras (rca's, xlr's) there was nothing extra included in the package, (3) fit and finish is middling, (4) with the exception of the kind and generous offers Rick made, which were obviously hollow given his failure to live up to his promises, I feel like I was greased and pacified in the interests of pushing back the clock & commitments, (5) performance of cable is competent - a good all around performer (BUT IT WAS NOT WORTH THE AGGRAVATION, TIME & MONEY), (6) and if somebody asks ... why don't you just send it back or contact him? ... after all that time and bs and the fact that I have a cable that works, I'm done, lesson learned

thanks to Currawong's sleuthing prospective purchasers should be aware that Fidelity Audio is now Warren-Audio

Bergman2, you chose, and paid, for a shipping method which did not offer tracking, or delivery confirmation, called "Small Packet Surface", which costed you $5.25 and clearly stated 2-4 weeks delivery time. Your package was lost in shipment, and I, at my own expense, made you another cable and shipped it to you at my expense. I would just like to advise that the lesson to be learned, is perhaps to pay the extra 14$ for Xpresspost 3 days shipping with tracking and delivery confirmation. Is it not?
