Agalloch?

Heard some cool acid/fusion/metal on pirate FM, ID'd only as Agalloch. Cruising Youtube didn't find me what I was looking for, which is a compilation disc if such a thing exists. Anyway, those of you familiar with this group, please recommend a CD to start off with.

...and God Bless you guys for turning me onto Opeth and Porcupine Tree.

It's one of my favorite bands.

Their best album is The Mantle.

Agalloch is a folk metal band that mixes elements of black metal and doom metal into their music.

And I mean it when I say that ALL three of their studio albums are awesome. But if those three must be ranked:

1. The Mantle
2. Ashes Against the Grain
3. Pale Folklore

Definitely The Mantle is their best, but every album is fantastic.

I can't recommend their White EP enough, it's so relaxing.

B e s t b a n d E V E R!!!

I hope to see them live someday. In the meantime be sure to pick up all their albums. They're all excellent.

For full albums, i rate them as following:

1. The Mantle
2. Pale Folklore
3. Ashes Against the Grain

However, they're all very close for me. And then there are various ep's worth getting also. You can't go wrong with anything by Agalloch!

Agalloch is an outstanding band, and to me they are one of the only American metal bands that can compete with the Scandanavians at the moment. I would say that Ashes Against the Grain is their most accessible, so go with that. If you like it, get everything else from them. I also want to recommend their White EP. It is a very mellow and relaxing album with beautiful melodies. It is not cheap to get (it was limited edition), but if you are a big fan, it is worth it. I got lucky and bought it at the release.

My favorite by them is Pale Folklore. Has more of the metal/folk element than the Mantle does.

Thanks for the thread. Wikipedia says
Quote:
Ashes Against the Grain was released on August 8, 2006 by The End Records, featuring less focus on The Mantle's prominent acoustic guitars and instead more emphasis on electric guitars and metal elements, giving the album a different sound from that of their previous releases.
so I wasn't sure if the sound across albums was similar, but I'll definitely try another. I like AATG a lot.
