I think the sound improves about 20% or so amped. Bass is tighter, treble smoother, transparency increases (this is versus an iPod Nano unamped)

I'd like to bump this up to see how I can squeeze more out of my SRH840's (without spending too much more than they cost).

They are pretty efficient, so I would assume just about anything would have enough power.
