BEST VALUE FOR MONEY
Finally I can send my Superlux 668B where they belong - into the trashcan. Due to a discount at the german Creative store website, I was able to order the Aurvana Live for 49€...
I purchased these headphones off of Amazon at a huge discount, at $160. With a long period of burn-in, I would have gladly paid double.

First, let me describe the...
This is my first 8 hours of my portapros impression (on a intercity bus, in less than ideal environment for an open can. EDIT 1: this was on the day of purchase).
First thing that...
Fantastic sound (compared to the other wireless headphones and normal headphones) although, for me, positioning is very hard to get right, but once right the sound is full and crisp,...
Now that there are a few of these out there............
Has anyone found an amp that really seems to 'fit' these headphones?
I have a Grado RA1 amp that I use for my RS1s and it really works well with the Shure SRH-840s. They are both low impedance headphones (40ohms and it just works really, really well.
The sound feels a little more open through my EF1, but I agree with Koven that the difference between amped and unamped aren't huge, to my ears. I would be on the lookout for amps that have a reputation for transparency and excellent soundstaging abilities - the sound out of these is balanced enough that I don't think you need to look for anything to really flesh out either end of the spectrum.
I am using a Meier Corda Swing. Looks and sounds great together with the SRH840s!
Hi jpstereo,
Had a discussion with another Head-Fier re the SRH840s, which I had been lead to believe might be similar to the HFI-550 in terms of bass impact, but he had a poor opinion of their bass response. Does the Swing improve on the bass (deep bass that you feel wash over you - the Ultrasones definitely have that ..) impact ?
Is there a tube amp that seems to work with these low impedance HP's?
Try a hybrid, the Millet Starving Student is a great place to start. I know that Little Dot amps also have switches that allow you to change the output impedance of the amp to better match low, medium, and high impedance cans.
My SRH840 is enroute to me as I type this and I will be using mine with a Millett MiniMax. I will also try them with my recently repaired Audio-gd Compass.
I think that the SRH-840 pairs reasonably well with the PA2V2 (at least for amping out of my iPod) and very, very well with the Little Dot 1+. I've heard much about tube amps being bad for these 'phones, but as the 1+ is a hybrid, you get the best of both worlds (warm, punchy lows and crystal clear highs) and so I feel there is pretty good synergy.
everyone saying sounds great w/ this and that.. of course, i think that's obvious it'd sound great w/ most setups... but have you compared w/ unamped? how big of a difference are people seeing vs unamped? cus im seeing little to none w/ a hybrid amp
