Sorry to hear about your HEV70 and glad you got your money back. Hopefully its just something small like blown cap and any repairs will not be terribly expansive.
I have the HE60 / HEV70 for a few years and enjoy it very much even with the amps shortcomings. Its at a totally deferent level then most of the other gear. I did get a demo GES send in from Woo Audio for a headfi meet couple years back and had it for maybe ~10 days before sending it back. Its definitely worth spending maybe $40 on the shipping (very heavy unit) just to check it out before spending so much money. My impressions were extremely positive going up to GES. I was using the plug adapter. It was a couple years now but three areas of vast improvement still send out in my mind. Keep in mind I'm infected with tubes and greatly prefer the natural/organic/fluid sound tubes will provide.
Mids, very big improvement, very natural, real organic sounding, both male and female singers.
Low end frequencies, much improved over the HEV70. The low end was more extended down, more detailed/separated and overall greater presence.
Musicality / PRAT, the HE60 opened up quite a bit, becoming much more musical and enjoyable to listen to. From HEV70 they sound to me a bit dry, analytical and not as involving as I would like. Out of GES all these in my mind shortcomings were greatly improved on. They definitely blossomed greatly in to a whole other level. This is still on my list of purchases although I got side tracked a bit with the purchase of the LCD-2 :)
I had a pleasure at the last Chicago meet to listen to HE60 out of Blue Hawaii and Ray's A-10 Thunderbolt. While these amps cost quite a bit more then the GES, and we are talking couple years between hearing GES and the meet settings, both amps did phenomenal job with the HE60 and reminded me of GES in many ways. The most obvious improvements I could hear were all in the same areas even if at deferent levels.
For the price GES definitely delivers vast improvements to HE60 over the HEV70
