do the 80's have more bass than the 60's?

I just tried this mod on my SR125. First impression is bass extends lower and the upper mid/treble spike is a bit more level to the rest of the range. Im not usually a fan of modding or messing with the original sound, but damn these sound awesome now.

Well, my friend just give me this link, and WOW !!  definitely really great idea, I like how the sound change from this mod, and of course, the comfort is improve too

first time i hear of this mod also.  I flipped my bowls but i just couldn't fit them on my RS1 cups. at least not like in the pictures...

I use reverse bowls on my sr60s. It's a great mod (and it's free!!). It helped tame the highs a touch and added a bit more impact to the low end. A little EQing from there and the sr60's sound is pushed to another level.

Before trying this, one might want to try wearing right-way-around bowls the way God and John Grado intended ;) -ON the ears, low and forward (top and back edges of pad aligned with or even a little ahead of / below the corresponding edges of the outer ears). Compared to having the drivers sitting on your ears as so many people do when they try to wear Grado bowls circum-aurally, this widens the soundstage to a surprising extent, and nicely tames the upper midrange. Any comfort issues can be dealt with by bending the headband to loosen the fit as much as desired. As I've been trying out other cans in search of an upgrade (including my now-sold DT990) I'm finding my SR80s, worn this way, to be surprisingly hard to beat. Probably I should just get the heck away from this place and save my wallet from destruction. ;)

supersleuth: that does indeed change the sound quite a bit.  My 325is opened up considerably with respect to staging.  I'm just curious where you gathered the info that this is the way Grado intended?  Did you speak with him, or is this written somewhere?  Is this the way they are developed and tested? Thanks.

I was really sort of kidding, but I have a dim recollection that there was actually once advice to that effect on the Grado website, some years ago.

Also there is a (non-Grado-specific) explanation of the soundstage effect on the Meier Audio website under "tips & tricks".

Wow I did this with my sr60i's when I first got them. I didn't really think too much of it at the time (I was mainly just curious if they would fit the other way) so I didn't really do any testing.

Lame story aside, I may just keep them if this helps enough with the treble. That's really the only major complaint I have with them. Thanks.

Woooooooooow!!! best of 2 Worlds

I only can think about that Grado would have to make "mini bowls"

Great Sound Thanks.
