Has Recorded Music Ever Made You Freak-Out And Jump?

We use headphones here and because of that fact have subjected our minds to certain conditions which could cause fear and trauma. Most of the time this is due to unexpected loud sounds or sounds that seem not to come from the headphones. What is your best headphone freak-out story?

There is this album called Timewind by Klaus Schulze. The whole album is slow and calm but at the end there is this loud strange sound that is a total freak-out. I can not figure why this was done other than to cause fear.

First time I heard Hurt by Nine Inch Nails was on SACD using headphones, and it was at a higher level due to the soft nature of the song, only...the end isnt so kind for the first time listener, I nearly had a heart attack.

*nod - I wish they would have SACD'd more than The Downward Spiral - such good memories of that album.

It seems that no matter how many times I listen to He Doesn't Know Why by Fleet Foxes, I'm always caught off-guard by the part after what at first seems like the end of the song, where someone asks something like, "Keep Going?" and another person replies, "Yep." (Or words to that effect), which is then followed by the piano that really does end the song. The first time I heard that song was late at night and I was at home alone and I thought, "Oh f***, someone's broken in!" Even now, after hearing the song a million times, I still catch myself looking over my shoulder every now and then when that part of the song comes around.

Hilary Hahn's Mendelssohn and Shostakovich concertos....she is my favorite violinist. The artistry, power, brilliance, just all amazes me...

I absolutely detest all artists who put telephone rings in their songs: makes my heart jump every time.

Go-Go Gadget Gospel - Gnarls Barkley.

Also a song by Parkway Drive, I never think to look at the name when it happens, but there is a shouted part in the song that sounds like it's coming from four dudes over my should about 10m away. Scares the sh!t out of me every time.

The dogs barking from Radio Kaos are pretty distracting. But the biggest "wtf" moment for me was right after I got my SRM1, I was listening to a recording of the Cowboy Junkies I'd made (with permission). I've listened to this recording hundreds of times, and thought I was familiar with everything about it. But I was sitting listening, and then I heard someone talking just behind and to the right of me, and kinda freaked out. Turns out I'd just never owned headphones resolving enough to reproduce that.

Last night I was listening to Prodigy - Breathe fairly loud while my wife was studying in the other room. The vocals have this odd echo effect that made it sound like someone was yelling somewhere in my house. Freaked me out to say the least!

Outside of the headphone realm, the first time listening to NIN - Eraser in 5.1 from SACD... the little buzzing sounds circling the room really creeped me out...

Freaked Out/Weirded Out

Judas Preist - Sad Wings of Destiny

First time I heard this album in College (1976) I was so "Weirded Out" I didn't know what to think (it scared me and I was a big Black Sabbath Fan). Had to listen again abou 1/2 dozen times I "got it". The "Standard" that all "Metal" Albums have to measure up to. Got to see them in concert on the "Unleashed in the East" Concert Tour-I'll never forget Rob riding a Harley on Stage at beginning of Show.

Happy Listening.

With my AD700's I sometimes think I hear people moving behind me or someone talking to me from behind.

I have only been scared when I accidently had the volume set too loud and started a song. Scared the crap out of me, (I was in shock a little, very stressfull)
