Luckily you put a smiley () at the end..
A story like this does not enhance a vendors reputation though, and I bet it will cost them quite a bit to fix those 2,300 units as well.

old news, over a week ago I saw on Krells web site that they had already recalled the amps, the difference being that unlike most companies Krell not only provides the new fuses and directions for their install but compensates the owner to the tune of $100 for the trouble.

It's what's called stepping up to the plate and correcting the problem.

The amps that have the problem are the KAV (Less expensive line) series.

I use to own a KAV-250a amp, and it hardly sucked. It was very competitive with it's AV oriented competition (Primarily Proceed, ATI and similar products)

As far as "most of krell equipment sucks" that's typical audiophile snobbery. Krell is the best known high end solid state electronics manufacturer and just like B&W (The best known high end speaker manufacturer) Audiophiles love to attack the big guy. Just like any company that's been around for 25+ years they have occasionally produced a piece or two that didn't perform up to their usual standards. Just like B&W Krell's equipment generally offers exceptional performance.

Indeed - Krell is actually dealing with the problem. I have owned a Krell pre-amp for 5+ years, solid performer, never had a problem with it. I hope Krell survives this problem - they make nice gear.

I love my circa 1980 Krell KSA-100 amp. It has great sound, and no fire in the 13 years I've owned it! Of course it feels like it could start a fire on a hot summer day, with all the Class A heat it puts out! Nice and toasty on a cold winter night, though! :-)
