IMO, having owned it for a few weeks, the Denon 7000 is just a mid-fi headphone. I'm sure the T1 trumps it. The HD800 does without even trying.

I was actually thinking of buying the D7000 for 600 for their bass.. Since I been living without bass since October of 08. D7000 Mid Fi.. Must say a lot about the T1.

Assuming you haven't done so already, I would definitely listen to them prior to purchase or buy them used. Perhaps the Denon sound signature doesn't work for my ears, but I didn't find them to be really that good in any area of the sound spectrum. Their bass reminded me of the DT770/80, which is too much of a one note nature for my taste.

I wouldn't say D7000 is mid fi...maybe upper mid fi or close to hi fi. There is a level between a D7000 and HD800 though but mid fi might be a bit much.

Thankyou, jpelg! These guys need to calm down, listen more, and post less. It took about 20 minutes for them to ditch the HE-5 for the T1. Perhaps, with real consideration, such judgement will prove accurate. But how can you make these huge, sweeping generalisations with something straight out of the box? What will happen to the T1 when somebody else releases a new flagship? I'm tired of the over the top hype the moment a new headphone is released.

Just to put this in context, I do own an HE-5. How it compares to a T1 I wouldn't know, but at this point, I can't believe anybody else does either.

I don't know if you'll find one of those anytime soon.

Anyway, to treat your comment more seriously, your observations are in my opinion, correct. But you know, it goes with the territory. There has got to be something to fuel the energy that motivates one into getting the next best one each time it appears.

I have an Edition 8 and I love their sound. The sound quality of a HD800, or HE-5 or T1 or anything else can't change that; why/how does the performance outcome of any headphone affect the sound of another headphone?

For a hobby which is based on subjective perceptions and personal taste, way too much emphasis is placed on other peoples' opinon, and too much - my new toy is better than yours. An apple still tastes like an apple, regarless of whether someone else thinks that a banana is better.

I know... I know....

but wouldn't you just like a T1?

I don't know whether I would like one or not (yet), I would certainly like to hear one. I like the sound signature of my DT880, so chances are that I will like the T1 also/moreso. But my point here is that no matter how good the T1 sounds, my ED8 won't sound worse as a result, and neither will other peoples HE-5 etc etc. And because we are all different, there will never (I know I should never say never) be one headphone that is universally the "best". Just as there will not be one car that is better than all the rest etc etc.

I thought the HD650's sounded great and I'll certainly say this to anyone who hasn't heard one. However, after listening to the Ed8's and RS2i, I no longer look at the HD650's as I did before. In fact, I sold them. All is relative and if you wish to keep your impression of the Ed8 unchanged, then don't get any other set of cans that could possibly make you appreciate your music in a more positive way. The cans may remain the same, but your subjective appreciation the sound of your music doesn't. Not when you're introduced to different presentations.

I view new offerings with some excitement and the Ed8's have a lot to do with this. I could possibly go even greater heights, though I'm now pretty convinced that I'm now in the realms of seriously diminishing returns.

Wondering how's the speed on those? As slowish as the rest of Beyer lineup? How do they fare with fast metal comparing to something like ATH-AD2000 for instance?
They certainly look very promising.
