Beyerdynamic to launch new top headphone at IFA -- called T1 - Page 198

Musicman which amp do you run the HD800 and T1 with and why is the Senn preferable?

AD: We received a shipment of T1 yesterday and we are receiving another shipment on Monday that should take care of all pre-orders placed until end of April and some orders placed on May 1st.

Pre-orders have been opened to the new Tesla T50-P. According to Beyerdynamic, they will start shipping out of Farmingdale to us by the end of May.

I have no idea what they will sound like but they look extremely sharp and knowing Beyerdynamic's sound signature, I don't think they will disappoint.

oh boy, I should have bought from ES.com. I made a down payment at Guitar Center 5 weeks ago to lock into the $995 price and was told 3 weeks. 5 days ago the salesperson at GC told me that my order was denied so he's still trying...I don't even know if I can get them...something about them being a consumer item, not pro gear. That's BS because GC special ordered some DT-880 years ago. So now even if GC can get them, the story is another 3 to 5 weeks. I'm not happy.

I found this picture on avguide review site.  Anyone else have transducer cover that looks like this?

Here's the link to the review

No mine doesn't look that way and I had the same question as you after I saw the picture. If I remember correctly the first photos of T1 had also different cover.

In balanced mode I am using a Rudistor RP010B MkII and also an Apache. In single ended I am using the Violectric V100.

Before the re-cable job on the T1 to me the HD800 was a clear winner. Now with the Zeus cable the T1 is very close to them.

It is matter of preference and music taste. If you are going to listen to Rock/Metal and you like to have fun listening then probably the T1 is for you but again in my opinion they need a re-cabled. I made a comparison side by side between the stock cable and the Black Dragon and the differences were clear. With the Zeus the sound is even better.

Now, If you like more relaxing sound and you listeon to Jazz, Acoustic, Orchestra then I think the HD800 is a better fit.

Noe this might sound strange but I think I actully like the T1 sound better out of the V100 single ended than from any of my other amps. My undrestanding is that the V100 is capable of big voltage swings so it can drive the T1 better even that s single ended and physically smaller. the bass out of this amp is the best of all and the speed of the headphones is also improved. I have own the V100 for 3 weeks and I like the sound so much that I am already going to place it in the for sale forum to upgrade to the bigger V200.

In general I still prefer the HD800 but now by a short margin and it is mainly becuase of the soundstage presentation. IMO is bigger all around and more 3 dimensional and holographic. Ineed to mention that I also have the HD800 re-cabled with the DHC Complement.

Both the Zeus and the Complement are based on OCC copper. I am not sur ethe source of the wire in the Complement but the Zeus has 3 wire system based on Wireworld Eclipse 6 wire. I ma thinking on orderig a Zeus fo rthe HD800 in the near future to compare to the Complement due to the huge success of it in the T1.

musicman59 - how does your V100 fair with HD800? Is it equally successful as with the T1? Amp that can give T1 loads of juice sounds good to me.....making V200 quite tempting!!

Fedex Said I would get my T1s today buy apperently not:( Anyway I intend to rewire them and thinking about spades directly to connect to my tube amp. Musicman do you have the Senns wired direct or do you still have the plugs on the cans?

I have not done an extensive listening to it with the HD800 but the first thing I noticed was more bass and with my other amplifiers. I will check over the weekend and report later.

Did you buy from us? We should be able to request a refund from FedEx if you are in the US (and the delay was not caused by TN floods). The free shipping we used was 3 DAY AIR guaranteed (3 business days). PM me or send us an email if you got the T1 from us and we will be glad to check with FedEx.

I got my T1 today and have been listening for about an hour so far. First a pic:

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g156/Asrale/t1_x1.jpg (edit: can't get the HTML to work, just a link for now)

Setup is Plinius CD-101 with Rockhopper Balanced M3 in unbalanced mode (my reference dynamic amp of the past few months).

I've previously heard the T1 at a meet. Listening to it again at home is obviously more useful. It's a fine-sounding headphone but like the HD800 before it, initially I'm underwhelmed and I think it sounds pretty average. Not bad, but not great, and like I expected, it's mostly just a different flavor compared to my other dynamic headphones (Qualia 010, Grado HP2, Audio-Technica AD2000, JH13). I previously said in another thread that I didn't think the T1 was similar to the HP1000/HP2. It turns out they both have one thing in common: when I listen to either of them (the HP2 or the T1), for some reason I wish I was listening to the Stax OII MKI instead. :p

I'm finding it a bit hard to actually like the T1 so far, as I've gotten used to both the HP2 and Stax OII. The T1 seems to lack the "living soul" sound of the HP2 and the combo of dynamic range and impulse response of the OII MKI which is sort of depressing. :(

A couple of things that have nothing to do with sound: (1) there were LOTS of tiny pieces of hair on the driver housings that I saw as I pulled the T1 out of the box. I cleaned up most of it but there's still a little bit left. Anyone else run into this? (2) I also looked at the driver assembly in the inside of the earcups and compared it to my Qualia 010, as I noticed it was similarly angled. Seems to me that the Qualia 010's driver is at a slightly wider angle. The Qualia 010 also has a significantly larger driver "chamber" and has the drivers further away from the ears.

You shouldn't be depressed, just be happy and enjoy the O2 Mk1 and HP2 if your ears don't acclimate to the different sound of the T1.  The HP2 really sound good on a balanced amp, and maybe the T1 would benefit from re-terminating them to balanced?
