Beyerdynamic to launch new top headphone at IFA -- called T1 - Page 15

[QUOTE=fhuang;5986353]i see it's ready to order from beyer website[QUOTE]

It listed availability is November 15. I'm just glad that Beyer has set a definitive date and not just thrown out some random "November or December" time frame with option to delay into 2010.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Ah yes! Now let's wait for the reviews! Has anyone found some more info/pics/impressions?

Just came back from my first day at IFA.
Listened to the T1 with my own music and connected to the A1 (which IMHO is not so much of great headphone amp).
Bass is slow. Very typical to beyerdynamic. It is punchy, but slow. Volume is somewhere between DT880 and DT770 Edition (600Ohm).
Mids are sweet. Nothing sticks out or draws your attention. A slight coloration which I usually find in audio-technicas maybe, but I have to check that again on another day.
But the very best part is the reproduction of the heights. Finally a headphone that delivers what I was missing with the HD800.
Extremely clear, extremely good resolved, very present - yet never annoying! No harshness, no sharpness, no peaks. Metallic where they need to be metallic and at the same time very soft and silky when silkyness is needed. Very nice.
I instantly fell in love with the heights!

The headstage is an issue though...kinda. Angled drivers tend to produce a very small headstage/room with my ears and so it does with the T1. No exception - unfortunately.
I will not say anything about the positioning as I was forced to listen louder than I normally do, although I took my listening time at the very end of the day when almost no visitor were left.

All in all...I'm not surprised and not overwhelmed. I am not as underwhelmed with the T1 as I was with the HD800, though. It's a solid headphone and clearly a beyerdynamic. It has it's strengths, it has it's weaknesses. Just like any other headphone has. But as a whole, on a high level .

I also spoke with one of the developers. On the measurement instruments from beyerdynamic the T1 is the headphone with the flattest response between 200 and 5000Hz ever created by beyer.
Whatever that means.

I will take some more listening time during the next days and if I find something that's worth mentioning, I'll let you know!

Oh yeah, detailed pics to come. I have to edit and upload them.
Although I knew the press picture I was really impressed with the build quality. IMHO a step up from the premium Edition models!

Would you say that these are better headphones than the hd800 in your opinion?

He means that in a 20-20K hz frequency sweep the drivers didn't fluctuate away from zero db across the 200-5K range as much as other Beyer drivers. ( a flat frequency response graph is considered a desirable trait in headphones as well as speakers)

No!
The HD800s are really, really good headphones. But just not my cup of tea!

And if I was forced to choose between the two from what I have heard with these phones so far, I would gladly say "no, thanks", put on my DT880s and enjoy the music.

well he may have been underwhelmed by the hd800 and not with the t1 but it depends on his expectations at first with both of them, so I'd still like to know if he actually thinks the T1 is better than the hd800 in his opinion.

Thanks for your report m00hk00h

How about T1's headstage compare to 880 or 990 ? is it just "not as huge as HD800"

or "small than the same class headphone" ?

I know what it means technically.
But what I meant with "whatever that means" is: that does not guarantee that you will like the headphone more or less because of this "feature". I mean nobody knows what the beyerdynamic "ears" look like.
So it's as flat as the HD800 is flat on Sennheiser's measurement systems. But still they sound differently.

Smaller!
But that due to my incompatibility with the "angled driver" design. That never worked for me. Be it HD595, closed AT woodies or Ultrasone's S-Logic. It doesn't work for me and results in very narrow soundstages.

OK, sorry. Your sarcasm was Uber-Subtle and came in under my radar

And I wholeheartedly agree that FR graphs should in no way influence a persons opinion of a headphone. It's all about perceived sound quality combined with comfort for me.

EDIT: I don't think we can delete posts, but you can ask a moderator to.

Hm. Still it says "Edit/Delete Message" when hovering over the Edit-button.

Anyways, here are the pics:

T1 and A1
Beautiful, beautiful mesh. This picture doesn't do it justice!
Without flash. Notice how you can clearly see the beyerdynamic logo on this on but not on the one taken with flash!
Earcup closeup.

The build quality is superb, these black "end pieces" (beyer's words!) are no longer plastic. They are aluminum!
