Maybe we got an really different new Monster headphone......
My guess is that Beyerdynamic is aiming for a "top tier" headphone that can be driven by an iPod or soundcard. They're probably hoping to grab people who want great sound without dropping another four figures on an amp. Smart move - I'd love high-end cans I could take on vacation without an amp. And those with great amps will likely buy the T1 anyway.

Pity I can't afford it.
You might want to keep a change of undies handy. IIRC, I read that AKG is planning to launch a successor to the K-701/2 at CES next year. What disappoints me is that it was phrased as a successor to the K-701/2 and not a successor to the K-1000. If it's any good I plan to buy it - I've lovedevery AKG I've listened to except for the K-701. The K-340 hasn't ignited my passions, but it's far from bad. Hopefully, they'll pull off another classic.

i am glad beyer is entering this market. i am glad they have not changed their proven quality design. however, i don't know if i will like the sound. they are obviously aimed at the hi-fi market. even the ps1000 is a hi-fi phone regardless of the word pro. i have found the dt880 to be the greatest headphone for me. that is because i am listening as an engineer. they suit me perfectly. all the phones that impart their own strong sonic signature no longer appeal to me now that i have found these. it is strange i never knew. i am almost sure these will follow other consumer high end phones and are not intended for the "monitoring" market. if they are completely suitable as monitors and i am wrong i will certainly have these. most of the headphone market even in the high end is looking for phones with their own sonic signature. most people would not like monitors at all. since most monitoring is done on loudspeakers beyer was wise to expand into this growing market. i would guess that the dt880 pro does not sell as well as say the k701 or hd650. i wish they would make a $1,000 euro can with the response of the dt880 pro.

Me too. Haven't heard anything yet that appeal to me more than the DT880's sound, no matter of price and fidelity.
If the T1 can retain the DT880 sound signature and add "more" than it would be the greatest headphone.

??? You want to pay $1450 for a headphone that has the same sound as a $350 headphone? I must be misunderstanding something here.

well, i hope it would not add "more" as in some sort of coloration. i hope it would add "more" as in putting you even closer to the source. like lifting everything that stands between you and the recording. just 100% neutral flat curve.

in fact i am reasonably sure the t1 will be quite the opposite. it will probably be a colored hi-fi phone.

it amuses me to hear people say how neutral the ps1000 and hd800 are. they are very good and pleasent hi-fi phones. they are not studio monitors. they have their own sound. i am sure people that own those headphones would dismiss the dt880 pro simply because of their price. or some other reason.
i own many of the best headphones in the world and nothing gives me as much enjoyment as the dt880 pro. they just put me so close to the source. i have never heard imaging from headphones like this before. the highs are smooth and the bass is super tight. they almost dissapear. just the music is there.

i truely wish the t1 will take this to another level but i am doubting that is the direction they went.

Sorry to the OP for the off topic post.

Music_man, so to your ears, the 880 pro is the top headphone for studio monitor use? I was thinking studio engineers used something like the CD900ST which many have said have almost no color. I asked this because I bought the 990 in the past thinking latest is best but boy was I wrong. Maybe I should have gotten the 880 pro.

Sorry about off topic

To my ear, DT880pro is another hidden jewel of beyer
Very accurate timber, less coloration and more refined compare DT880'05

but the two headphone just slight different in "mechanical design" , according to beyer's office FAQ

I was under this impression as well, and a different coiled cable.

The FAQ confuses me :

The DT 880 Edition 2005 is designed for listening music and relax. The headband provides a long wearing comfort for hours. The Hifi-version has a more transparent and open sound than the DT 880 PRO.

I thought Beyer advertised 880 PRO as studio monitor??

i am also sorry for off topic.

all i can say is that i have been mastering music for several decades. now that i have found the dt880 pro it is the epitome of a studio monitor. other engineers may not be able to work with it. everyone is different. many engineers use the mdr-7609 which i think is horrible. some use the k240 which is decent. the k701 and k702 which are the same thing are really hi-fi phones. when i make a tiny change i can instantly pick it out.

i am using the dt880 pro for enjoyment though. all i can say is even compared to headphones that are literally thousands of dollars it is like i took the cotton out of my ears. these things do almost everything very high end speakers do and more.

intrestingly i just changed the cord and it ruined what i liked about them! they did these right for their intended application.

which brings us to what is very important. most studio monitoring is done on loudspeakers because phones cannot provide a proper sound field. in many respects the dt880 pro can imo!

like i said i hope the t1 brings another level to this. although i am afraid they went in a completely different direction with these. beyer also makes hi-fi phones as well.

again, sorry for off topic. lets get back now.

"The completely redesigned transducers achieve values of over one Tesla (a unit of measurement for magnetic flux density). That provides the listener with almost double as much volume as traditional headphones.
The extremely lightweight 600 Ohm voice coil provides transparency and perfect impulse fidelity.
The elegant look of the T1 compliments the technical achievements, with even the smallest of details selected by hand. This model reaffirms beyerdynamic's commitment to world-class "Made in Germany " quality. Get the most out of your headphones: enjoy the T1 together with the A1 headphone amplifier as the dream team for audiophiles.

perfect transient- and phasefidelity (600 Ohm voice coil)
outstanding neutral sound
very high wearing comfort due to verlour ear- and headband pad"
