If you look at the very detailed picture, they have made some subtle cosmetic improvements. But as you are hearing from many long time Beyer users - the Beyer DT770/880/990 form factor is one of the best there has ever been in terms of comfort and wearability - no doubt, it was a very good decision NOT to change it.

100% agree. Why change a great design just so to slap on the "All New" moniker on it for marketing reasons? If only some other headphone designs followed a Beyer like design.

As for the price and the cost savings of reusing an old design, flagship or "STATEMENT" models are always priced to be luxury products and promote exclusivity. I don't want to state much more as this topic is a never ending debate.

And I'm just throwing this out there, but the decision to not redesign could simply be because this headphone is partly a reaction to the HD800. Maybe Beyer had the driver design sitting in a filing cabinet for a while and decided to fast-track it when the HD800 and PS1000 garnered so much attention.

The solution to this would be to take the driver design and fit it into the existing housing. Since the physical design is great, I'm not going to fuss if this was what they really did.

But this is just a wild speculation so don't put too much stock in it!

I hope they have detachable cables! That would make a lot of people (me included) happy.

From the photo, they look non-detachable.

From the photo, the cable doesn't look like "symmetrical 6-pole cable" that similar to Stax's

That is why I think the retail price is even more ridiculous than the HD800.
I want to say two things.
First is the tilted baffle. You have to redesign the housing in order to fit put the new baffle.
And second: look at the picture. You can see the driver. On DT770/880/990 you can't see em even if you remove the first layer of foam. There is a lot of felt in from of the driver that beyer used for the sounding. "Still too much heights? Hm, more felt, then!".
Nothing like that on the T1. It's at least a hint for a more thoroughly engineered system.

On the other hand I can see why you are tempted to think that way.

I can also assure you that the Tesla1 is by no means a "fast shot response" to the HD800. (If it should have been they should have introduced much earlier, right?).

Also I spoke with beyer staff about this new driver design at the Prolight+Sound fair in April 2008 in Frankfurt. One and a half year later they introduce the headphone which uses it. Does neither sound like an answer to the HD800, nor like a fast shot to me!

I think the 4 major German HP manufacturers have been working on new flagship headphones for years now. Now we're just waiting on AKG.

Maybe when I get a job, I'll try these, God willing. : ) I hope Beyer hits one out of the park with their "flagship" Tesla. I can't think of a headphone company more deserving of a rousing success.

AKG was the first with a flagship and discontinued it a few years ago

Looking at the design, there's not much metal surface to offer the MANUFAKTUR engraving option. I would have liked to see oval cups or much larger round cups so one's ears are naturally enclosed rather than folded. Offering detachable cords would also provide an additional revenue stream for customers that prefer coiled/straight, shorter/longer, SE/balanced cables.

I guess I am the odd one cause my ears are small so Beyers and almost all other full size headphones have cups that are annoyingly big for me. The size of the SA5000 cups still have room for me.

Why isnt this a bigger topic? Sennheisers were crazy, for the HD800. This is the newest and innovative beyer in a decade people? Bring the masses!

I'm interested in the Tesla1 but not much of a fan of Beyerdynamics...love their comfort but they just don't reproduce the bass to my tastes...perhaps this Tesla 1 will, though....I'll continue lurking while listening to my Sennheiser Hd800s.

Bring 'em on Beyer!

Tesla = the unit of magnetic flux density in the International System of Units, equal to the magnitude of the magnetic field vector necessary to produce a force of one newton on a charge of one coulomb moving perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field vector with a velocity of one meter per second. It is equivalent to one weber per square meter.

Oh...and if AKG enters the Ring of the elite, I'll really **** my pants!

Disclaimer: I have yet to read through all of the posts...just wanted to chime in.

But the following post I found unnecessary and inaccurate:
