reluctantly have to get a new phone...

my 1st gen iphone is now almost dead, a crack from someone knocking it off table, almost impossible to talk to people cause of a cutting out microphone, and the real nail in the coffin an unusual line of dead pixels running across the screen

its very unusual, they started as individual pixels, and have gradually grown in to horizontal lines.. with some of the line coming back.. tho it is almost dead

i have been eyeing up the new sony satio but an now wondering if i will miss my iphone if i get something else however the iphone contract in uk is awful!!

i would have rather waited until the 4th gen cam out as the 3gs is practically the same as the 3g, so i dunno

i dont want a 24month contract, after seeing how people who wanted to upgrade last time were treated, and its a terrible contract
seeing as im paying £10 a month as of now on PAYG

SO........

is the 3Gs any better than the 3G in real terms? or is thier a device im overlooking? or is the sony worth waiting for? hmmmm

also, i was going to get a sat nav, but ive found sat nav for the iphone for £60 which if good would easily justify the iphone cost as i wouldnt need to spend £250 on a sat nav

The only real big difference between the 3gs and 3g is that the 3gs is 2x as fast as the 3g in terms of opening apps and such.

If you liked your previous iPhone then upgrade to the 3gs. You'll love it.

The 3GS also has a neat magnetometer that can be used to rotate the maps on the device so they line up with where you're facing. Don't bother with voice control, I could never get it to work right on Dad's 3GS. Me? I'm very happy with my 2005 model Windows Mobile smartphone.

are the blackberrys geared towards business?

They really are. The new camera on the 3gs is significantly improved over the older models. The 3GS also supports MMS now, and it can record video. The 3GS is a vast improvement on the older models for a number of little things.

I'd also recommend something like the palm pre, where you can have apps working in the background. For example, if you are waiting for a page on the internet to load, and you switch to a different app, the page will keep loading. This is not true on the iPhone.

Since you're in the UK, have you tried out the HTC Hero yet?

^ you know i literally just looked at that, one site says its underpowered but it does look nice

^ The Hero has the same slow/old processor as the other recent HTC phones. The Sense UI looks good, but arguably can't be utilized to its full potential due to the poor hardware. The 3GS completely obliterates the HTC in power. Also, Android apps still aren't quite there yet, at least compared to Windows Mobile or the iphone.

They are geared more towards productivity, which is why businesses end up using them a lot.

If you want cool multimedia capabilities and games, I'd stick with an iPhone.

If you want the best email, messaging, productivity, I'd get a BlackBerry.

If the iPhone had actual GPS, wasn't locked to AT&T, and supported UMA calling, I'd consider buying one.
