Background music to listen to while reading? (no classical pls)

Contemporary-sounding instrumental music pls. That means no lyrics/vocals.

Off the top of my head, Post-Rock and Modern Classical might be what I'm looking for... but I wanted to hear some specific album suggestions.

Jazz might work as well... Same goes with drone maybe... I'm not so sure.

Right now I'm going through the whole Explosions In The Sky discography and it works. I just want to build up a big playlist for the long run.

Something that can be brought around and wouldn't necessarily require an internet connection, maybe?

It is Latin Music such as Brazil to flow by the streaming broadcasting.
I think it is the best when assuming B.G.M.

I know you requested no classical, but have you tried 20th century minimalist classical? Very different from the classical and romantic periods you're probably thinking about. Composers like Steve Reich and Arvo Part will give you instrumental music very different from Bach or Beethoven. Give 20th century minimalist a try.

Yeah! Actually, this is what I was referring to when I mentioned Modern Classical - Arvo Part in particular

In that case, Philip Glass should be checked out.

Philip Glass - The Hours or Roving Mars score
These are both excellent to read with...

Explosions in the sky or sigur ros' first couple of albums. I started listening to both bands for background music and ended up really loving them.

Interesting.

What particular album(s) would you recommend for the purpose of the thread?

That's a bit difficult. Their discography is vast, varied and complicated, including collaborations, side projects, aliases, compilations, remixes, bootlegs, unreleased…, and most of it is impossible or hard to find, and if you find it it will often be pretty pricy.

In reality you have two options: find a deal on eBay, or do it the illegal way.

Either way I think Unnatural History is a good place to start

"Explosions in the Sky" sounds like exactly what you are looking for
