WAV in iTunes

Thread Starter
I deleted some songs in WAV format from iTunes and when I added them again, they had no information at all.

Is there something wrong with what I am doing? I ripped all of the songs using iTunes and now.........blah......damn iTunes.....

I don't think wav files support tags like other formats do, so you'll probably just need to enter the info manually.

Yup, wav has no tags, aiff is basically the same underlying format, but with tags added. So if you deleted it from itunes, you lost the data.

Do not blame iTunes, when it was you who deleted the files.
Why not restore the iTunes Library to a stage before deleting the file? From your backup...

Simple said, the WAVE contained do not support metadata so iTunes store what you have added in its .xml file.

try ripping your music at wmp11. They do have their album art, tags, and other information like you get from mp3 format

It doesn't matter how you rip it, WAV doesn't have a way to store that information in the standard, for uncompressed audio with tags, use AIFF

yea... WAV doens't store the tags, sucks doesn't it?

So.....if I have everything ripped as WAV. can I convert to AIFF and have the tags?
or do I have to re-rip everything?

if you tag it it will, converting it won't generate the information out of nothing

Im new to Itunes...when I convert I end up with a WAV copy and an AIFF copy, is there any way you know of to delete the WAV copies automatically?
I hate to sit here and delete 900 of them one at a time....
