musical talent, or the ability to cognitively understand certain musical concepts are often genetic, and if the family is music then the environment will facilitate that child for musical growth.
BUT very often people are related to someone musical and unfairly become famous simply because of their relation to a real genius.....I'm not meaning to knock him, but look at Jakob Dylan compared to his father.....his band the Wallflowers had a string of hits in the late 90s and their debut album outsold ALL his father's albums......but after that album he did nothing and never found anything remotely impressive about that record anyway....His father was a supreme genius and still is.
On the other hand J.S. Bach had several children who became composers and at the time many of his children were actually more highly regarded than the father. Of course today this is not the case, but C.P.E. Bach and W.F. Bach are amongst the best composers of their era......I don't feel the same for J.C. Bach, but he was actually the most highly regarded composer for at least 2 decades in London during the mid 18th century.
George and Ira Gershwin were two brothers who were a match made in heaven and while George was clearly the genius of the duo, Ira was still very important.
The Bee Gees - Probably the most successful assemblage of siblings in the history of pop music (yes even more successful than the Jackson Five even if Michael independently had a bigger career).....I never cared for them much, but these three brothers practically own an era in the history of music....their brother Andy Gibb also became a huge star before taking his untimely death.
The Beach Boys - Brain / Dennis / Carl Wilson (and don't forget Mike Love is a cousin)......In truth their is one supreme genius in this band....and that is Brian...Dennis was really a beautiful singer and songwriter as well and Carl was quite capable of great things, but Brian is the Beach Boys to me.
Oasis -Known more for their feuding than their musical collaboration, the Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher are amongst the most well known siblings in music
The Allman Brothers - Duane and Greg Allman.......great pair of brothers here and obviously it's even in the name:-)
I won't even touch on Julio / Enrique Iglesias - haha
