MP3 Player with the best sound ?

Seriously, my main concern is sound quality, should I buy the new Sony X-series ? It looks great:

NWZ-X1051FBSMP | 16GB X Series Walkman® Video MP3 Player | Sony | Sony Style USA

Any alternatives, or does the Sony really have the best sound ?

Thanks

Alba mp3 player

FWIR, the Sony X has a really nice warm sound - the Cowon S9 would be it's competition.

However, a cheaper alternative would be the AMP3 - check out the AMP3 thread. It's not as nice looking or flashy.. but the focus is strictly on SQ.

The AMP3 is the only player which is designed only with sound quality in mind , this is a player where the manufacturers are concerned only with sound quality and all other thoughts have been disregarded thus it is the only player which would answer this query!!

You title is for best mp3 player not PMP. So I think AMP3 is the best candidate which is simple to use for pure music replay.

Plus, you can got a hi fi earphone ,and hi fi earphone amplifier as a freebie.

By the way, the battery of AMP3 is closed to double times longer than Sony X 1060. While the price of AMP3 IS the half of the SONY price.

Of course, if you need the touch screen function Sony X1060 is not a bad option.

The Hifiman HM-801 is coming as well... But I reckon the AMP3 is a more humane choice
Both purely music players.

And from what I've HEARD, my Sony A816 doesn't sound warm one bit (quite on the contrary: detailed but thin and dry), so they must've done something to the new line sound-wise. They are also very powerful compared to the iPods and such..

In my knowledge, Class D amplifier usually have the flaws of thin and dry sound sig.

And I was told AMP3 is the only player applying the Class A amplifier .

it is a common sense ,that class A amplifier is mostly applied in hi end amplifier. the feature of class A AMPLIFIER IS WARM AND SMOOTH.

X is the best. Period.

Well, you shouldn't ignore the more vintage options. iRiver H100 and H300 series, Gigabeat F and X, iAudio M5 and X5 series . . .

Glad you have heard all the MP3 players out there so you can share your experiences.

I vote for the AMP3 if you like natural sound which is a big step up from previous generation players (have not heard the X).

How about the Sandisk Sansa Clip or Fuze if you don't need the flashy features?
