Do you think the Beatles Rock Band game and Remasters will have any impact on...

I was thinking......most people who are not audiophiles and grew up with Beatles or shortly thereafter The Beatles generation, already owned the Fab 4's stuff on vinyl and then later replaced it with tapes / CDs....etc.

This Rock Band game (while it will certainly be fun for adults) is largely aimed at the teen audience, and will probably cause many people who are under 21 to discover the Beatles music for the first time, just as the Anthology series died about 15 years ago.

Do you think the game coming out in addition to the remaster series is going to have a distinct impact on the youth who may not be aware of much Beatles? We will know within a year or so, what the outcome will be, but if you were to make a guess now, what would it be?

I have high school kids (and their friends) who actually are into the Beatles. But they have no clue about the upcoming Rock Band game or the box sets. They're aimed way over their heads. But if the Beatles had the theme song to Degrassi or Greek Secrets of the something something American Teenager or Jon & Kate +8, they'd hit they'd hit the big time. If that group ever wants to succeed, they should aim for that.

I think in the same way that a lot of less well known artists got more exposure through guitar her rock band etc, the beatles no doubt will as well. It won't make album sales skyrocket like a premature death seems to, but it undoubtedly will impact hundreds of thousands (in my "I have no clue what I am talking about") opinion.

I don't think the Beatles edition will really reel in that many more Beatles fans. There are already a decent amount of teens who listen to the Beatles. The ones who will be buying the Beatles edition will probably be the ones who already listen to them. I don't even think the game will sell that well. Don't quote me on this, but I don't think the Aerosmith edition did that well.

Fair enough, but there's a BIG difference between The Beatles and Aerosmith.....

Outside of head-fi cyber world where Pink Floyd is king......

The Beatles are the most beloved, well known and biggest selling music act of all time, in most age groups even today....

the beatles popularity even today far eclipses that of Michael Jackosn, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Pink Floyd (yes Pink Floyd, can you believe it?;-), Madonna, and give a decade or so and more kids will be listening to The Beatles than Britney Spears, Kanye West or Justin Timberlake........Aerosmith is like a small Nebraskan city, compared to The Beatles' entire EARTH.

So I bet you the Beatles Rock Band becomes not only the biggest selling video game of the entire rock band series, but I bet it becomes the biggest selling video game of 2009, and possibly the biggest music related video game sold as of yet.

With regards to remasters, I think you're going to see a lot of kids under 18 buying their first beatles CDs.

I am willing to bet the opposite, the Beatles Rock Band is probably going to be the worst selling game of the series. By a huge margin. Firstly, the Rock Band series always trail behind the Guitar Hero series as far as sales goes. Secondly, in case you haven't realized the whole "music rhythm" genre has been saturated and milked to death, and the recent sales has been disappointing relative to the predecessors. So the idea of it becoming the "biggest selling video game of 2009, and possibly the biggest music related video game sold as of yet" is pretty ridiculous. But most important of all as good as the music of The Beatles is they are not going to work well for Rock Hero. You are not playing real guitars here, and nobody except for hardcore Beatles fans are going to be interested in tapping simple chords over and over again.

And I'll like you to quote evidence that The Beatles are reasonably popular with the latest generation of music listeners, let alone "far eclipses that of Michael Jackosn, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Pink Floyd". Do they even know what's good music when they hear it?

This friendly bet is ON!.....My assumption is that The Beatles Rock Band will become the biggest selling Rock Band Game geared towards any band ever, and possibly the biggest music related video game in history within 6 months of its release....id like to re-find this thread in March of 2010 which is fair enough time and after the Christmas season........................I think maybe the state of the economy will put a damper on sales in the whole video game industry, but I have no doubts about this.....The Beatles Rock Band game will be the most heavily promoted and sold music related video game in years and probably of all time (up to this point)....

Keep in mind, Rock band is NOT guitar hero. More kids would rather jam out to Dear Prudence or I am The Walrus than stupid Scorpions and Twisted Sister crap.....

to assume that the world's biggest rock band will be the worst selling game of the series is just a complete lapse of judgment...............in my opinion

Unfortunately to the Generation Y/Generation Z people the biggest rock band is probably some crap like Daughtry/Creed/Nickelback. And those are the people who're going to be buying the game.

No one thinks Daughtry, Creed, nickelback is bigger than the Beatles.........I'm 26.......when I was in highschool the big bands were Pink Floyd, The Doors, Led zeppelin, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Nirvana......but no one was bigger than the Beatles.......and I work with high school kids and its still the same in all races that I've seen from the NEw York demographic. The Beatles are infinitely bigger than any rock band around today.....and they are not alone, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Hendrix, Bob Marley all have a bigger fanbase from teens than does Nickelback or Daughtry or Creed.

This above post made me want to share a special memory i have which happened to me a year ago........

I was at a Borders books/CD store. I was in the classical CD section when walking by was this really small kid (probably around 7 or 8 years of age) with 2 CDs in his hand....the pair of CDs caught my eye....it was Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon and The Beatles' Abbey Road.........The mother was following the child about 10 feet behind and she was holding hands with what appeared to be an even younger sibling, a girl around age 5. The mother was clearly under 30 years old and therefore The Beatles and and Pink Floyd were not from her generation.

So I actually followed the kid, and said to the mother, "your son has great taste, I'm impressed"....and when it became clear that the mother was friendly I actually went up to the child and said "how did you find out about these albums?" He looked confused and I quickly realized that "albums" was not a word he could relate to....so I quickly rephrased and said "where did you learn of the Beatles and Pink Floyd?"..... and he says this to me..... I remember his long response almost word for word...this is hard a paraphrasal....

"I just started taking guitar lessons and I'm forming a band and all my friends listen to the Beatles and Pink Floyd." I said "wow, how old are ya and your friends" and he smiled and said "I'm only 8 but my friends are 9 and 10"....I quickly assumed that it must be his guitar teacher who is introducing him to this stuff, so I said "does your guitar teacher show you how to play this music?" and he said "yes, i ask him to"

I was just blown away

I have no idea about the influence of videogames - I haven't played them for probably 25 years. But I can't help but think that more exposure will help the younger generation along. The Beatles are accessible, yet there's a musical sophistication that can be appreciated for years.

I don't think the remasters will have the same reach. They'll be purchases by older fans. Younger people don't usually buy music, anyway, and most of them have no concept of quality recordings.

I don't think its the remasters that will bring the kids in.....i think the advertising campaign and the whole buzz will......

I agree that The Beatles are still a big band among teens today. I'm still not sure how the game will do though. I'm going to say that it won't be the worst selling game, but it won't be the best selling game either. The price is pretty high... Plus, there really isn't much variety being a Beatles game and all.

Uncle Erik, you said that many younger people usually don't buy music, but from my personal experience the youngest generation is starting to buy music again. It's really people around my age (22 give or take some years) who don't buy much of their music. My generation grew up in the Napster days though. My younger brother (12) buys all his music on iTunes. This one 15 year old girl that I know buys all her CDs. Many other kids around their age also buy their music. I was actually surprised when I noticed this.

If anyone has looked at the last few McCartney concerts that were sell outs and noticed
the age range from older than me (51) to teenagers so yeah I think this will definitely
cause a big hit only time will tell how big of one.
