Well, it's not a dynamic either. If it belongs in a thread, it'd be the ortho thread or TakeT thread, maybe the Stax thread.

as for top dynamic headphones i think i am done with the oop stuff. i owned some of them and the rest i have heard and while very good not exceedingly or in some cases even better than what is currently in production and as another detriment, almost always much more expensive. with the HD800, PS1000, T1, D7000, Ed8, DX1000, and others it seems like there is enough quality and variety to choose from without having to seek out hard to find and often unrepairable out of production headphones. i think i would rather spend my money on a source or amp. just a thought.

Ah, this describes my setup. ^_^

Hd800's

I took delivery of my HD800's in early August, and the first thing I noticed was how they lift a veil off, of what I was previously used to.

The higher frequencies had better clarity over my Sennheiser HD600's & HD650's, but then anyone would expect something for the extra cost..for sure!

My personal ratings of my headphones are;
1) HD 800's (The extra comfort is a bonus.)
2) HD 650's (I find have a slightly richer sound than the HD 600's.
3) HD 600's (600/650 have Kimber Kable cables.)

I shall eventually be matching my headphones with a high end Headphone amp.

Especially tube amps...as no matter where I read about these type, all serious headphone users in general express that they are the best.

I have been leaning towards Woo Audio and response i.e. recommendations from others.

The good thing about Woo Audio is the fact that they and others recommend high quality tubes, over the standard.

From my initial enquiries I have found Woo Audio's correspondence to be second to none and was impressed by the information given along with prices, of which was very reasonable.

My current short list of possible purchases is as follows,
1) Woo Audio 2 / 4 / 5. (this manufacturer is top of my list at present.)
2) Lehmann Linear USB.
3) Graham Slee Solo (with the separate PSU.)

Genuine Regards

^ Great 1st post!
The HD800 seems to be of your liking as well, a step above the HD600 and HD650.

Welcome to Head-Fi!

I think the qualities and needs the OP describes suit the HD800 nicely. I have tried the HD800's with a fair few amps, the best pairings have been the WA6 and balanced Beta22. My preference would be the Beta22, IMHO it has better transparency and top end sparkle, although this may just be an attribute of tube vs solid state, or maybe balanced vs single ended. The WA6 has better tone although the presentation is a little soft for my tastes, listeners who regularly do 2 or more hour sessions may well prefer the WA6.
Good luck with your choice!

Welcome to head-fi hdheaven, that's a nice first post. I do disagree with this comment though - as there are many amongst our brethren that feel completely the opposite.

Hello and good day
Hey thank you johnwmclean, krmathis,

Thank you for your comments, as I have taken them aboard.

To be honest the prospect of purchasing a Good or great headphone amp is a little daunting to say the least.

However' the good thing about all of this is, I guess you can only read so much about each product, before taking the plunge and purchasing.

What is worrying though is the amount of money that I would like to spend, and the situation with Woo Audio is where I go to have a good demo???? before purchasing.

The situation with the Graham Slee is fine, as the seller has reassured myself that he will post the Lehmann Linear amp aswell free of charge, just so I can make my mind up between both.

It looks like I shall be purchasing a solid state + Valve at some stage, but am sure that most will agree that we all have other priorities to deal with along the way.

The other priorities can get in the way at times and can be quite frustrating to say the least......Thanks again guys and for the warm welcome, of which is much appreciated.

I shall look forward to corresponding further with yourselves at some stage.

Sincere & Genuine Regards

After listening to johnwmclean's HD800's on his Beta22 (balanced), as compared to my HD800's through my single ended amp, I truly believe the only way go is balanced.
There are audiophiles and there are AUDIOPHILES.
Short of a Senn Orpheus, the HD800's on a Beta22 is the way to go, unless you're a Stax Omega II fan.
