I am hovering between a KGSSHV and the BHSE. I currently have and quite like the SR-717 with my 009s.

I do however hear and realise that the Stax amp is on it's limits maybe, and could be improved for my 009s.

I used to own the 007s Mk2.5s. Those headphones were power hungry and a bit dark.

Did the KGSSHV get designed originally for the 007 (controversial subject I know).
I can see the extra current (and less warm signature) of the KGSSHV would really suit the 007s.

However, my worry is the 009s are much easier to drive, so the need for more volts may not so important?
But having dynamic headroom in an amp is great in the real world right?

Also the 009s are obviously more transparent and have more treble energy. Is there any BHSE owners with 009s who moved from KGSSHV to the BHSE and know the sound difference between these amps?

If the KGSSHV is quite warm, as warm as the BHSE, then for me it would be better for me, as I like the convieniance factor. If it is colder
than the BHSE or brighter, I would NOT fancy a KGSSHV for my 009s.

I am referring to a typical good build KGSSHV with best parts.

Any help would be great guys. Pity I can't have a KGSSHV on demo... but that is another story.

Oooh the lack of tone controls - ha ha only kidding. But you know where I am coming from, with SS amps
if it sounds err - bright, it will stay bright. The BHSE can have tube swops to tweak the sound (system synergy),
which maybe partly negates the hassle of tubes (cost, failures, damage to amp, cats, etc).

Macedonian hero has 009 BHSE - maybe he could chime in here.

Paddy,  I think Peter moved from a KGSS to a KGSSHV.  Not the BHSE - He will confirm.

The mullards have smoother (albeit brighter) highs and sweeter mids compared to the el34ph, which is why I think these fit the 007s better.

You're right that using the PH's with the BHSE has produced a thicker sound, and there's possibly less transparency, but I can't say I've noticed that, however that's probably because of the source I have and use.

cool. Your BHSE arrives soon - will you have 009's by then do you think? I'm looking forward the seeing all the posts about BHSE arrivals.

Looks wise, one of the things a really like about the BHSE ( and GS-Xmk2 ) is toggle switches being used ( IMO an excellent idea Justin ) . So assuming Justin does eventually start building a SS stats amp, I wonder whether he'll adopt a toggle switch for that amp, in fact I think a SS stats amp ( built by Justin ) would look very nice if it looked similar to the BHSE's amp section, that's only IMO.

Um,most of your questions have already been answered when you asked them in the Stax thread.

I highly doubt Justin ever does the HV.

From practicality stand point, HV will be better. SQ wise FWIR its a close tie between these two on 009. But from the looks, i doubt that regardless how nice someone build a HV, it would match the look of BHSE

Probably not a HV, but a SS stats amp, time will tell.

Uh, he's done the KGSS in the past. And the HV is also a SS stat amp.

You're forgiven. I think the BHSE is great, but the wait time..ugh. My HV is a best effort to capture some of the fit and finish of the Headamp offerin'gs, but it fell a bit short, really. Those damn heatsinks are my favorite aspect to his builds.

It'd be nice if someone else entered the market, but they be too scared.

Yes. Well, yes. But that makes two people. That little poosy and then a certain commercial dude who makes pretty good Schiit.

I think the BHSE is an incredible amp in almost every way, what stops it from being perfect to me is I'd never leave it on while being out, it would probably be safe to do that, but I'd never take the risk.
This is why I'm wondering whether Justin might eventually start building a SS stats amp, because it wouldn't bother me about leaving a SS stats amp on while being out, after all I've done it with my GS-Xmk2 several times. ( this was when I was using that amp a lot more than I am now ).

Assuming Justin was to eventually do a SS stats amp, then I see no reason why it couldn't look similar to the BHSE's amp section.
