I have the Senn and the Stax so I was wondering if the BHSE is a 'compromise' solution for the HE-90's? I'd like to use one amp for both phones. I am only wondering out of ignorance as to which amp design would be best for the HE-90's? Sorry if this drifts off the thread a wee bit.

You might want to look at the Aristaeus...I enjoy it for both headphones.

I'd go with the aristaeus, if you have to choose one. The 009 is OK on it, but the HE90 is unbearably crappy on the BHSE - the Senn's flaws simply stand out too much on such a neutral amp

It's actually created with the 007 in mind (due to the 009 not existing yet), but many love it with the 009. Hoping to do the actual comparison soon myself but quite a few that have heard or owned both liked the LL with the 009 and BHSE with the 007.
It really comes down to preference. I honestly didn't like the 007 much at all when I heard it, but I loved my LL + 009.
I'd say so as it's voiced for the HE90. Again, I'd love to hear that combo. (drool)

For the HE90's it's the Aristaeus for sure. Don't know about the 009's, sorry.

I thought the same thing of the 007's when I compared them with the HE90's on the Aristaeus , just awful. The 007's sounded great on the BHSE.

I've heard both my 009 and IanG's 007mk1 [ when he had it ] on my BHSE, and found some songs sounded better with the 009 and vice versa. I've ordered the Aristaeus because I'm hoping the songs I have problems with the 009 / BHSE, will sound better with the 009 / Aristaeus. I've also on order the GS-X which I believe Justin should be shipping soon, so hopefully I'll get them together.

It's actually optimized for the 007, but many like it with the 009. Hoping to do the actual comparison soon myself but quite a few that have heard or owned both liked the LL with the 009 and BHSE with the 007.

The BHSE is optimized for the 007? I didn't think amps were normally designed with a specific headphone in mind. Did Justin tell you this?

No, but IIRC it was talked about for awhile in the Stax Thread. I'll see if I can hunt down some of the posts. It makes sense though considering how long the BHSE has been a concrete design. Since well before the 009s were released.
If it ain't broke don't fix it I'd say. They aren't designed with a particular headphone in mind most of the time but when you've got top of the line to test with that's obviously the benchmark.

There is no truth to that. Just because the amp is immune to the load presented doesn't mean it's tuned for anything in particular.

Hello Justin
Thanks for the information. But this batch 3 and 4 merger makes me feel uncomfortable: does it mean that batch 3 subscribers (who, for some of them, applied more than six months ago) will have their order processed like late BHSE subscribers', which should have been assigned batch 4? In concrete terms, can people who subscribed in Oct 2012 (me, for instance!) consider they will be delivered soon (say, before spring)?
I admit that you'll work faster if you don't have to answer too many questions... So, best regards!
Philippe

I think those that are waiting for their order of the BHSE, that after they've received it and hear what it's capable of, they'll feel the waiting was well worth it.
