Just ordered a D10. Now im thinking I made the wrong decision? - Page 3

I've own (ed) both the Pico and the D10, though not at the same time. The Pico has better build quality, but I prefer the sound and optical ability of the D10.

the d10 is a lovely amp, fantastic especially if using it for the optical conenction and its great to roll op amps to change the flavour and of course, the price is right without a doubt.

The pico though, is pretty special, it is the quietest portable amp ive heard, period. Of course also, it does have a build quality advantage over the d10, just the fit, finish and materials used gives it a higher quality feel.

But thats more subjective, the low noise floor and transparency of the pico is not subjective however.

Ive had a pico with dac and currently have a d10, I will be chasing after a pico again when funds allow.

IME, the extra $200 between pico amp and dac and the d10 buys you a quieter more resolving amp, but for $300 with optical and op amp rolling the d10 is a no brainer.

I can't agree more for a small potato like me. But once you become a big bro's here, you may become more or less invincible.

I doubt you can go wrong with the D10 and the same applies to pico as well. Can you elaborate more on what you want? Do you want more on the dac? If yes, then probably the pico dac alone version is better.

Does the d10 upsample?
No I don't think so. The chip can technically handle 24/192 input but iBasso have never tested it beyond 24/96 as they have no source delivering higher input.

for the D10 to sound as good as the Pico, shouldn't u need to have native 24/96?
Just because it is 24/192 does not mean it will sound better than 16/44.1, just my opinion.

There are many variables as to actual recording quality etc. I have SACD's and many different types of recordings. I have a analogue to digital done back in the early days of digital when some transfers were actually good, of some classical music that is so life like it is spooky and it was done of some of the oldest generations of digital transfer equipment, far from 24/96. Now if 24/96 or higher gets to our ears as just plain better I am all for that but I have heard variations in everything.
