Thom Yorke: No more Radiohead albums - Page 3

I'd rather them trickle singles through the interwebs every six months than create an album of total crap so that there's something new on shelves..

But it might be reinvigorating for them to take a break from the need to top themselves with every album. Waiting for a good concept, rather than saying "Well, it's been x number of years, time to make an album," might ultimately result in better work in the long run.

On the other hand, the band members, Yorke in particular, are basically speaking into microphones every time they utter a comment about their music and career. Their legions of devoted fans pore over every peep out of them. Most of us become discouraged or feel lost or tired at some point, and at times like that we may issue rash pronouncements about making changes in our lives. But we don't have an army of rockcrits, bloggers, and social networkers hanging on every word we say in an endless stream of interviews.

Cooler heads can prevail among the un-famous, in other words, and usually do. We decide that our job at the factory or engineering firm isn't so bad, and we get on with our lives. But ordinary people don't have every word out of their mouths subjected to micro-analysis and trumpeted around the world. Rash pronouncements are quickly forgotten, and only shared with those close to us to begin with.

Well said. As a non-fan I don't have much stake in Radiohead's choices, but I've learned not to place too much stock in the seemingly wild pronouncements of celebrities. Yorke could've just had heartburn or something…who knows?

If you're referring to the negative response "Harry Patch" has been getting, don't assume that's the direction they're headed in. If they do release more Ep's, singles, etc, They won't be as much of a departure from their main works, because I think they have a tentative shape to their "furmula." (But by no means are they formulaic.)

On a side note, I think it would be great if they made a tribute album to themselves. Like, they could essentially make fun of the style of various bands that would attempt to cover their work. Imagine Thom Yorke's impersonation of Jeff Tweedy attempting (valiantly but with failure) "Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong."

I've often said that I would do most anything to become rich -- except become famous.

I don't really feel sorry for celebs whose every move and word is picked apart; they asked for fame, and most of them feed the beast even if they say they hate it. But the thought of being in that position makes me sick to my stomach. I am completely horrified by the idea of being accosted on the street by people who don't know me from Adam. So I don't feel sorry for Yorke and his bandmates, but I don't envy them their lives, either.

When I was in high school, there was a news item about a guy who was busted while sifting throught Bob Dylan's garbage. Apparently he hoped that he would find a discarded piece of paper with Dylan's thoughts scribbled on it, or maybe a fragment of a song lyric. That was more than 30 years ago, and the memory of it still freaks me out. By today's standards, that incident would be considered mild. I think celeb insanity/worship/mania has gotten several orders of magnitude worse over the intervening decades.
