Is It Worth Me Upgrading From My Zune?

I've been pretty happy with my Zune 80 and Westone 3's, but fancy a change.

I've read about the X1060 and S9 and wondered if the sound quality will be much/any better than the Zune?

I also watch some video, so would like a good screen and would like to know if they'd be better as well?

The touchscreen is an appealing feature, although I do like the Zune interface, touchscreen is the way forward I think.

Would I gain much overall, considering it would cost me a fair bit, even if I sold my Zune on, plus I'd lose 48G.

Thanks chaps.

Here are a interesting but fair and informative ideas for your decision which one is suitable for your new player:

That thread just refers to brands and I just wanted opinions from people that have those that I've mentioned.

Thanks for the reply mate.

I have a Zune 120 & an S9, the S9's SQ really is way ahead of the Zune. It's an EQ and sound enhancement lovers dream. If your an audio purist, stay w/the Zune. If not, get yourself an S9.

Even the X1000 series is fantastic in the SQ dept, but video support is pathetic. It's flavored, unlike the S9's sound sig (well, more flavored????), but it's considered 1 of the best, if not THE BEST, sounding dap's made so far.

I'm mainly concerned about the sound quality and I'm used to converting video's for the Zune, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I might go for the Sony then, as it's £40 cheaper than the S9 and if the sound quality is as good as you say, then it should be money well spent, unless you think the extra money is worth it?

Cheers mate.

I'm a Sony lover, w/the exception of the X1000 Series,.... too much money for not enough features. I'd go w/the S9 - YMMV. Others would choose the other way. It's all about what features you value most, so make a decision based on that. I like the S9's simplicity, and converting video is a no-no nowadays.

In a nutshell - final decision is up to you.

Thanks for the comments, I'm also around the same boat as the OP and am looking for a new player as well.

I've just ordered the X1060, as the video aspect isn't the most important, it's the sound quality that is utmost.

Plus I can always return it to Amazon if I'm not happy with it, then I could go for the S9, I'll wait and see.

Cheers for the input.

The Distance Selling Regulations in the UK mean that there is a "cooling off period" and I can return any item within 7 days of receiving it, no questions asked.

I think I'll make my mind up within that period, so if I still fancy trying the S9, then I'll only lose the postage to send the Sony back, about £3.

Plus I've never had a problem with Amazon over the years, I guess I've been lucky.

Same for me regarding Amazon in the US. We have 30 days, no questions asked. I'm actually on my 2nd S9, had to return the first for health reasons (to pool my resources). They were a charm to work with.

Now, S9 #2, and I'm all good again. I do love the Cowon sound, but Sony is fantastic as well. I think you'll be keeping the X1060 when you get it. Enjoy, it's a wonderful sounding player.

I also have a Zune 120 and now have the X-series. The x is a little beast. The sound, screen, the battery is great. The lid is off the trash can.

I've had Zune for about two years (from 80gb to 120gb) before moving onto X1061. Before X1061, I honestly thought all players sound just about the same...didn't feel much difference but between Zune and X1061, it was night and day. Almost like moving from AM to FM radio. I can confidently say that there is indeed a definite difference.

Now that I am playing with X1061, Zune 120 was rather a boring sounding player. I am glad that I give X a shot. It was the money well spent.

All told, the X1000 Series is the better sounding between the 2, no competition. Even the S639 & A829 I owned toasted it. My S9 also sounds fantastically better than my Z120, but I keep it around for the Mrs - she likes to watch videos on the go w/it.
