TMV shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Pink Floyd, let alone directly compared. They're good, yes, but I've never felt that sense of being completely taken away by the music as I have with Pink Floyd... Re-listening to The Great Gig in the Sky after several months sends shivers up my spine.

x2. I think there's absolutely no comparison to be made. And don't forget this is pinkfloyd-fi.

Comparable to HD800 vs HD555. Pink Floyd being the former of course.

The Mars Volta would earn an extra point if their CDs weren't some of the most awful sounding, ruinously mastered, compressed holes of white noise and clipping I've ever heard.

I suggest for the next poll using Iron Maiden and Hoobastank.

This^ no comparison. Pink floyd is one of the greatest ever.

Oh boy, I really like Mars Volta but they are not in the same league as Pink Floyd.

Whats with the recent string of "vs" threads?

I LOVE TMV, but comparing/contrasting them to Floyd doesnt make much sense.
Not only is Floyd in another league, the two bands arent even in the same genre.
How then can you compare them?

Like apples and oranges.

Pink Floyd vs. who? Just kidding It's Pink Floyd for me, for sure!

LMAO

Anyone thinking of making a poll in the general discussions section?

I am taking nominations for the silliest music poll ever (also search for the old AdamCalifornia polls)

I didn't vote lol

I disagree with all of you saying that they shouldn't be compared. I think they're similar and I like them equally. Just wondering what HF's opinion was, and I guessed right

Head-fi's opinion is that The Mars Volta is unlistenable for the reasons in Duggeh's post. It doesn't matter how good their music is if it is impossible to listen to enjoyably.

I checked out Amputechture from the library to find out what it was like. I never made it through even half the album. Painful mastering.

TMV couldn't hold David Gilmour's guitar pick...
