No, I've called a few retailers, and they said that they sell the RC-10 separately from each other. It's always wise to check all corners before you buy.

It definitely isn't clear so I would have contacted them for sure had I been ordering from them. Maybe Energy supplies some with single speakers, but I always saw them sold in pairs, so it seems kinda odd to me.

So I sent them an email. Apparently the RC-10 is a center channel speaker to them lol. They are in fact selling them 300$ for 1 speaker.

If you don't want to get a sub, you should definitely get floorstanding, unless you're okay with lacking a bit of bass. My Rega R3s were $800, and are perfect for the office/small room, designed to sound good despite being flush against a wall, and woofers on the side. Similar design is the Mordaunt Short Avant 908i, available for $650-$700 right now. A friend has them, and they sound amazing.

I also have Wharfedale Evo 20, which has a nice thick sound. I've used them for both the bedroom, and as side surrounds in 7.1 setup. Got 'em a few years back on eBay for under $500.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned a pair of Dynaudios BM5a. I got a used pair from craigslist for $500. I don't have a DAC yet, just a pair of XLR to RCA adapters with a cable to my PC headphone jack and they sound wonderful. A nice step up from my A5s. Plus they don't look like toys. :P

@ recca: Classic rock (AC/DC, Queen, etc.) and metal (btbam, Meshuggah, etc.)
I had Pico and like AC/DC and metal. My M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Deluxe rocks pretty hard for $600 MSRP. They are active so there is no hassle finding matching amp. They also look nice. With regards to SQ, I rate them slightly higher than HD650 recabled and driven by WooAudio 3.

For the rest $400 you may get speaker stands and some tube preamp.

Technically I got my RC-10 for $270 (I bought a refurb rosenut, but the tweeter was bent, so they gave me a new cherry instead, because they were out of rosenut...now they're out of cherry 0=)...yes, it was from Vanns.

Considering these compete or even best some speakers on the $500-1000 level....yup, I'm content..for now...
next step: Dynaudio?

Not hoping to hijack this thread, but how would PSB speakers do for a computer setup? Looking mostly at the Alpha B1's, though the new Image line looks promising. Would they perform well at close-range?

Yes to both, I believe. Never heard PSB speakers personally, but there's alot of vouching for them.

would a pair of energy RC50's for $600 be a good deal?
FYI, Futureshop has the Energy CB-20 on sale for 300$ and the Klipsch RB-61 for 400$ until next Friday.

driftingbunnies: I think a pair of RC50's for $600 sounds like a good price, but I would have to look around to be sure.
