Oh man! Way to stifle the impending FOTM status.

Thank you for being the "voice of reason", now I can go get a coby and know I'll have batter SQ. Hey, maybe even a maxell would be an upgrade then?

I have absolutely no idea where you are coming from saying it's a piece of what you called it.
Underpowered, hissy and tinny???? no,you are way off the mark there.
This player is powerful rich and clear so i just don't see how that makes it rubbish!
Ive personally been using this now solid for a week and i guarantee that it has the best sound of any dap ive heard and i stand by that.
No offence at all intended here but i honestly really don't have a clue as to the sq you described it as having.

Which DAPs/PMPs have you heard? What phones do you own?

I'm suspicious that a 40 pound player that looks like it harks back to turn-of-the-century has such a great SQ that it carries through to each of the phones you supposedly used to test it with.

It's possible that there are different internals using the same case. But I'd doubt it. It's also possible that the one I heard was faulty or damaged. But I doubt it. I know that I'd pick the 2G Shuffle in pink over the Alba ten times out of ten.

Supposedly?
Ive heard among others,i'm not listing everything, Ipod classic,mini and shuffle,cowon iaudio7,sony s639,a728,sansa clip,fuze and finally rh1 hi-md.
Ive already said which Phones ive tried this little player with as it's in my original post.
Just because it doesn't look special means absolutely nothing.
i've played this to many of my friends and they cannot believe the sq let alone myself.
Like i said in my first post £22 pound was a bargain and i am completely happy and knocked out by the sound.
The whole point of the review was to highlight a little gem of a player to you all, obviously it's completely your choice as to whether you want to take my word for it or not,but as it seems that most people are considering this a joke then thats fine.
Ive conveyed my thoughts and i'm happy because at the end of the day i have it and am enjoying it immensely.
No offence at all to anybody here but next time i dont think i'll bother.

Anyone know what chipset is inside this thing?

I have a Magnavox 2gig flash player, that also takes SD cards, with the famed Sigmatel audio chipset inside. Sounds absolutely wonderful with my Ety's. Oh, and it uses 1 AAA battery, and I like that a lot too.

I wouldn't dismiss those older (even no-name) flash players out of hand.

Good point, as we may be a bit quick to judge.

Thank you for that.
You may be on to something there.
In the uk alba is part of a group of companies that includes philips and bush etc so i wouldn't be at all surprised if it did use that chipset,or at least something similar.
All i know is that it sounds mind blowing.
Mind you alba has been around since i was a young lad many many years ago lol,and ive always had great respect for them as they have made some quality equipment, many of which ive had myself for years, and this gorgeous player is just the same quality, and as i said better than any well known one!
It is a new model,as it only was released about 2 weeks ago,and i fell in love straight away!

Beyerfan70, I'm at a loss as it's not available in the US for me to try. And, FWIW, the new Philips daps are starting to get decent reviews for their SQ. I haven't tried 1 myself, but it's starting to trickle down to other companies since Sandisk has done it w/the clip and Fuze. Inexpensive doesn't have to sound like toilet fodder any longer!!!!

That's very true,it appears that smaller named companies have caught up and in some cases surpassed the big brothers.
Maybe the reason that it's not available more widely at the mo is that it has only been out here for about a couple of weeks,so that could be the reason.
And i agree the philips players are awesome too,the new stick players with full colour displays have incredible sound, coupled with brilliant battery life are amazing.
I really hope that people do get to hear this player though because it is a genuine find.
Ok it's not modern looking, has quirky firmware (not faulty just quirky) and runs off an aaa battery but all these things pale in comparison when it sounds as good as it does.

Wise decision.

If the guy can quote more other authoritative reviews than not only his hype, it worth to have a try.

I would like to think since it have been sold for a while and if it is really superior in sound quality, there are must have many people post on commenting it. Anybody believe a player with 1/10 price of SONY 1060 while better than it and none of us know it?
