I just did a 32gb flash card conversion on a used 2nd gen 4gb mini I picked up for $40. I wrecked the clickwheel, so another $10 for a new one. Add to that $10 for a new case, and about $75 for the flash card, and we have about $135 all told. I did it mostly on a lark, as the flash drive conversion on my 4G Photo didn't work correctly, and I had the 32gb card.
I am very impressed with the sound quality of the Mini in this configuration! So much so, that I did a quick search here to see what others found. Interestingly most found it acceptable or worse. I find it much better than my 4G photo and my first gen iPhone. Admittedly, they kind of suck... I am using the HP out into a pair of esw10jpn's, and the little bugger sounds great to me.
I'll concede that: The ESW10's could probably make a 40 year old transistor radio sound good, and that I may have a bit of "new toy itis."
Anyway, I'd love to hear other's comments on the mini, and on flash conversion for the mini.
I'd also love to hear from anyone who has diymodded a mini successfully.
