Asio (foobar) + Creative Xfi question

currently I am using Foobar with the asio plugin

My card is a creative x fi titanium, with a built in optical out

currently I am using the optical out connected to my Compass, using d7000's atm.

In the asio tab of foobar, I select SPDIF out as my output, 800ms, 24 bit. I open the creative console in audio creation mode and set it to 44.1 khz, run bit perfect mode.

heres where it gets wierd, when I play a song in foobar It automatically changes to 48Khz no matter what I do. The only way to stop it from automatically change it is to select "Primary Sound Driver" in the foobar asio tab

is this ok to use "Primary Sound Driver" instead of "SPDIF out" in the foobar asio tab? Does the switching from 44.1 to 48 even mean anything in my case?

thanks
