always been magnetized by Earl 16's voice:
YouTube - Earl Sixteen - Freedom (produced by Scratch, as Earl 16 used to always hang around the Black Ark)
YouTube - Earl 16 Malcolm X (killer melody!!! Dennis Brown covered this one, and the disco dub version kills)
YouTube - Dreadzone Zion Youth.wmv (the best Dreadzone track?)

Wow, 6 pages and no mention of Toots and The Maytals?

Pressure Drop and Time Tough are two of the great classic songs. No fat bass but great singing and words.

I love the recording of "funky kingston" where Toots is giving it so hard and you can just hear the rawness of his voice. Another great voice that I don't think has been mentioned is YouTube - Jacob Miller - Tired Fe Lick Weed, 22-04-'78

Definitely an element of truth in that, but it's also funny because Toots Hibbert actually coined the term "reggae".
