Is Sony NWZ X-1050 eu volume capped?

I have just ordered one, and wonder if it will be volume capped, now that I'm in Denmark?

IF, is there anything that can be done about it? I read here that the firmware is open source, and I read something about a service menu also? But nothing speciffic, regarding whether it is possible to remove an evetually volume cap?

Otherwise I don't think that I will be satisfied. For the same reason EU ipods are not to my likening, they are way to low, in volume, and miss the excitement in sound

From the spec, the output rating is 5mW+5mW, and IMHO, it is NOT too loud enough to be capped .

Open Source firmware? That's new to me. Appreciate if you can give us the URL . As my knowledge, Sony is developing open standard Android based PMP/DAP and will be available in 2010.

Ha ha, but I'm certain that I read, somewhere in that monster thread, that the firmware was open source. This was regarding volume cap, but no definitive anwser was given.
It was in the same thread that I read about a service menu, but that was not further explained either,

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f15/i-...ssions-424404/

I also read that ALL Sony's DAP is rated 5mW+5mW, and it probably wasn't true for the X-series.

I had a ipod nano 3g, but sold it because of the volume cap. I also have a 3g ipod 20gb. which have had the volume cap removed by imod. IT is loud enough, but I really want a flash player, with better SQ.

Well, we'll see. I guess the Sony X is here by tomorrow, and then I have 14 days to make up my mind, whether it lives up to my expectations or not. Hopefully it does.

It shouldn't. I have no problem with mine.

The postman has just delivered, and NO, it is deffently not volume capped, thanks Sony! When listening at volume level 20, my ears hurts! And still 10 to go!!

And wow, it sounds great! At least with my Senn CX300 and the few demo songs on the unit. I am transfering my tunes to the beast at the moment.

Looking forward to recieve my Senn IE8 !

Well... A french 1060 IS indeed volume capped!

I ordered a 1060 from PIXMANIA - the store is located in France.

The french 1060 is about 10 steps quiter than my danish 1050, that's a lot!

So I'll have to live with 16gb. But I'll much rather do that, and be 80$ poorer, than live with lesser volume.

Something I noticed - My 1050 is transfering music by 2.7MB/s - The french 1060 transfered by 1.6MB/s . Both times using Salling Media Sync.

Hi,don't know how price compares etc,but this site is well liked & will post anywhere by all accounts.

Advanced MP3 Players Sony 32GB X-Series MP3 Player
UK so shouldn't be volume capped(well you can set AVLS,Volume Limit, off or on),you can ask them anyway to be sure.

Cheers BOB

Hej I'm French and I've just bought a X1060 today at a major retailer and my first reaction was at volume max: "what the ****, is that really all??". Is there any way to get documentation about it or measure it so it's not just my impression?
It not your impression, dikiz...
I had the opportunity to test the X-1060 at MediaMarkt in Brussels: the volume was more than OK; I could barely listen at vol 30 for more than a few seconds.
But it was 70 eur more expensive than buying from Pixmania, so I purchased from Pixmania Belgium....
BIG mistake: Pixmania is french, so my x-1060 is actually coming from France... and volume is definitively lower than what I heard before... The difference is real big, about 30% (gutt feeling)
Now I'm trying to find out how it would be possible to change the firmware to a non restricted one...
Any idea, guys ?
There must be a way to upgrade the firmware, so it should be possible to simply change it as well, hm ?

Have you found a solution since then?

In fact I'd say it's "ok" if I listen to it with the earbuds meaning that even in the metro there's no need to go over 30 (and NC works great), so I don't really suffer from the low volume.

But if I want to plug my player to speakers or a dock, now that's ridiculous.

Also, where could I address my complaint to Sony (France) regarding this issue ?

Hi,

I made the same mistake and ordered from Pixmania and I got a X1060 with volume limit :-(

Is there any chance to remove the volume limit from the X1060??

What about the Servicemenu of the X1060?

Thanks.

I need a solution too. Firmware, hack, whatever. I got half the volume of the A828, wich is frustrating. I can't hear half the potential of the X.

Try upgrading firmware with the general 1.10. Not sure it will work. Someone with an American version tried upgrading with EU firmware and it did not work. And it may be something different than the firmware itself too.
