Burn in overstated - Page 5

It is a hobby, nothing more , nothing less. Usually I am the only one who listens to my rig. Trying new stuff all the time. My rig sounds pretty good for what it is. It has been hot rodded a little. Ton of tubes and fuses besides the new music that is always coming. The hobby is fed!

Then why not try the frozen photograph tweak? Unlike many other tweaks, this one is virtually free.

You are welcome to try my gear at the next meet. Hear what I hear. It will be fun. Especially since it is in a Hi-Fi Shop.

But audio is, so I fail to understand why you wouldn't want to improve the sound of your system.

My initial post to you was in response to your impugning someone else and issuing them a challenge.

So I thought I'd see how you would hold up to a challenge put to you.

All you've done is dance around and make excuses and ultimately resort to ad hominem.

If you're not up for having a simple challenge put to you, then I'd suggest you stop challenging others.

Believe it or not, he's not pulling your leg. It's a published and reviewed tweak.

Wait until you get to the Silver Rainbow Foil and the Cream Electret.

Yup.

And it's also been reported that the frozen photograph tweak works best when there is food in the freezer along with the photographs, and better still when the food is treated with Creme Electret.

Again, not pulling anyone's leg here.

Can someone please describe the physical (or metaphysical) difference between "burned" and "unburned" silver cable?

Thanks.

I burn in my equipment (mostly through regular use) and I've found a head-fi "modest" 50 hours is more than enough. This was the case with my DacMagic and my Grado's. It didn't do a thing for my Fubar DACs.

My overall opinion: I agree with the OP, OVERSTATED.

I don't entirely discount the possibility of changes occurring in component where that is a plausible reason why the changes would occur, like with headphone drivers for example. However, I think that burn-in isn't so much the actual equipment changing as much as it is our ears/brains becoming acclimated to its specific sound signature. If you think of it this way, it explains a number of observations I've made regarding burn-in.

For starters, why do people who listen more during burn-in generally recommend shorter burn-in times for the same equipment? Naturally, if it is the actual listening hours that matter, the more you listen during the process, the less hours it will take.

Next, why else would burn-in occur for equipment like DACs and solid-state amps? If you've got a good alternate explanation I'm all ears, but I have yet to hear one.

Finally, why else should burn-in almost universally produce positive or neutral results? If physical changes were actually occurring in the equipment I would expect that it would at least in some cases actually degrade performance.

That said, I certainly do let new equipment burn-in my ears before making a final judgment on it since it really is how it sounds to you once you are used to it that matters for enjoyment.
