Best portable amp for JH-13's and imod 5.5

I have been going back and forth between the pico and the predator...
any help from the experienced would be much appreciated.

Are you looking for a DAC or just a portable amp?

Not sure about the Pico, but there seem to be a popular synergy between the JH13 and the RSA P-51 (and soon-to-be-released Shadow). From what I have read, the P-51 is preferred over the Predator in a straight-up Amp v. Amp showdown...

p-51 is really great for the jh-13's as well as the shadow I will be getting my new imod and vcap dock tomorrow so I can give my impressions again after it get's here.

I just did some reading on the p-51 and it sure sounds impressive.

Dude, I don't know about these amps, but if I were you, If I didn't need a DAC, I would wait to see the Shadow and Pico Slim impressions.

Yea it just seems like you have the chance to get the newest stuff, so why not wait for it. I am sure the JH13 sounds awesome just out of your DAP, so why not wait?

Yeah the only variables are price and release date at this point I am holding my mustang till it comes then I will either gift it to my dad or sell it.

I wonder if I should put rockbox on my imod when I get it tomorrow? Podhead which os are you using?
I use Rockbox on my iRivers and it destroys the iRiver software. I have never like the iTunes or iPod software so I would think Rockbox would be a nice way to go. For me it is much more accessible and just easier to use.

But there is a question of battery life. Some people say that the battery life is utterly crushed for Rockbox vs standard firmware. Does the Rockboxing itself bring out more SQ? @Jamato if I remember correctly you use a Mac? Does Rockbox work well with Macs?
I never directly compared battery life w/rockbox vs. w/o. All I know is that I never have managed to deplete the battery of my H120, especially since I upgraded the battery to a Cameron Sino 2200mah.

Rockbox does crush the original firmware. I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade to it. Make sure you follow the procedure for flashing it to the iRiver's ROM, and booting from there. It makes the player boot up in less than a second. Even if the SQ is the same, Rockbox is so much easier and more convenient to use, it isn't even funny.

On to the main topic at hand, if you don't need a DAC in your amp, I would definitely wait for the Pico Slim. The volume control on the prototype I tried at CanJam is the most precise and flexible for low-level listening (tested with the super-efficient Shure SE530's) that I have ever tried. Including the prototype Shadow.

My iRiver is rockboxed, and there is no option there as I play all lossless files. But what about iPods?

Can I assume you don't have an iMod yet, if you're asking for an amp? I see no reason whatsoever to get an amped iMod over the HM-801 player. None.
