SEE PROS & CONS. NOTE: The clamping factor will obviously differ from person to person, but I'm surprised to find little mention of it, as it is the sole reason I'd never think twice about...

When I listened to the sound for the 1st time, I was hit by it. I was punched by the not-punchy-bass. I was hoping it would offer much better bass response than SE315.. equals to Klipsch Image...

It might not be all that relevant, but when I first listened to the A2's I didn't know that if the volume knob is at (according to my foggy memory) 1/3 or less one channel will be louder than the other. When I lowered the sound in windows and turned up the A2's, it was like day and night, despite having read that I should keep the volume in windows and the media player at 100% loudness.

i think this comparison not fair because u decide to make conclusion with only ur ears and experience...did u have high end studio monitors or ever listen to them? i also feel like u are underestimating this little gem...
steve gutternberg had review m-audio av40 and many others high end pc speakers....he is a freelance and has review too many from cheap to very pricey speakers/home theather/studio monitors and headphones....he is a long journey audiophile that has far superior exprience in music playback....but he decide to put audioengine 2 in his blog "top 10 great sounding speakers from $30 - $400"...
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-20099395-47/top-10-great-sounding-speakers-from-$30-to-$400/
this if proof that m-audio av40 is not offers like what audioengine 2 offers(although m-audio is quite good i think)....after i hear audioengine 2 with my own ears i believe this is the truth...
but if u really want top audio quality from audioengine 2 u need to fullfill a few steps :-
1. burn in 1-2 days and even much longer...it will get better because audioengine 2 making from very high quality compenent that seem like last forever(need patient behaviour)...
2. find something to make sure it stand high enough, tilting it back and also turn it to ur ears...
3. crank the volume until 3 o'clock(this instruction wrote in construction book that came with audioengine 2)....this is because audioengine 2 very need power from it implifier to make it shine and can give more vibrant, richness and clarity with crisp(but not fatiguing) performance....
4. make sure u have good dac/sound card to make sure audioengine 2 push out what it has until reach it limitation....
