For me, Grizzly Bear's Ready, Able andAbout Face is the one-two punch of the year.

Also, Bluish by Animal Collective and Two Planets by Bat for Lashes.

First to it: "Stillness is the Move" Dirty Projectors (taken as a whole I preferred Rise Above as an album).

Also: "My Girls" Animal Collective, as the song of the millennium.

"Ghost in the Rain" - by The Hiatus
(Japanese alternative rock band, but lead vocals' english is superb)

"503" - by Hans Zimmer (violin solo by Joshua Bell) from the film Angels & Demons

"Prime" - by Steve Jablonsky from the film Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
(the first Transformers soundtrack was immensely better though...)
