Pet Peeve : Releasing music on iTunes only.

Who here has run into a track they'd like to pay for but is only released on iTunes - the hellspawn of Apple?

The worst thing about it: it's probably 128 kbps mp3.

well, that and I refuse to install iTunes.

It can be annoying. But I thought now they just do 256 kbps DRM free, though I've not bought from them for quite a while now. Also check if it's not on Amazon MP3 downloads... then they'll be MP3 instead of M4A. I'm not sure how their bit rate settings go, but I purchased an online only album from them £2 cheaper than on iTunes, and bit rate is variable from what looks to range around 192 - 320, with 256 average in the file data.

Well, as of last night my beef with iTunes is different. I needed to transfer a track I'd purchased to the iPod at a local club—they wanted it on their sound system—but couldn't. Some proprietary nonsense…once you buy something, shouldn't you be able to do whatever the hell you want with it?

Your fault buying Apple, and DRM music. Buy it on CD, rip yourself and use DAP's that don't need sync software. Couse it's illegal to give other people your music.

My beef with iTunes is their two tier folder system (Song folder >> Artist name >> Album name). If you rip a compilation by various artists with that, the songs get scattered to the four corners of your hard drive - making them impossible to find should you stop using iTunes.

I've checked Amazon, the song is not there. Q.Q

It is Smashing Pumpkins - Superchrist.

Unless you tick the Compilations box in the track info... then it goes into iTunes Music -> Compilations -> Compilation album name.

Pet Peeve: iTunes Store in general. I NEVER buy from them.

Indeed!
I have found several albums on iTunes Store that I have found nowhere else. Refuse to pay for lossy encoded music though...

agreed.

I hate iTunes only releases though I admit to having purchased 3 tracks from obscure bands who have released some cool covers that way.

The quality was decent for a buck. I hate that it wasn't $.10 but whatever. I'm helping folks out that make 1/10 what I do a year and that isn't saying much. But, this idea that digital is golden is for the birds. I want everything released in some hard media format. I'm willing to pay! Even if limited to 500 units, I'll pay it for the music I want. Seriously, the more I deal with digital the more I regress to vinyl, with vinyl of course sounding so much better anyway.

I used to hate it too, until I bought the new Serengeti (Dennehy (Lights, Camera, Action!)). With iTunes Plus playing over my RS2i, it sounded sublime. So I'm over that now and will do it if I have to.

Easy solution: don't use iTunes!

I'm on the same bus. I rather buy the actual CD and rip it myself.

Yup! I love buying CDs too. Much <3 for used CDs on Amazon.

I would always do that, but if there's stuff I want and it's lossless download only, I get it.
