Skullcandy Headphones

I've never listen to these headphones before, but I've seen them at the store and I see a lot of the kids around town listen to them. FWIR in the forum, skullcandy doesn't sound as good as they look. I found this article online about skullcandy and them being the #2 headphone company after Sony (I didn't know they were the #2 headphone company in the world):
ksl.com - Skullcandy founder making "noise" in Park City
I don't think I'd ever buy a pair for myself.

Wow didn't know that.

Of course, back in my day, I bought a pair of SC headphones. Bad idea.

I should review them for the lulz. hahaha

Well, appearance is more popular than quality! This has been proven through clothing, furniture, vehicles (motorized and non-motorized), watches and many other publicly visible products.

It's a shame that Skullcandy doesn't take themselves more seriously and invest in the hi-fi world.

I had a great laugh today at Vann's Warped Tour here in Milwaukee. I was walking around and saw a Skullcandy tent with a bunch of people rocking out to them. I walked in with a few friends and a whipped out my SR-225i's! Three people in that tent listened to them and then decided to buy the Grado;s since they then said "Skullcanddy sounded like pooh compared to these". I spread the love everywhere.

Yup, not once in that whole segment did anyone mention SOUND, just how popular they are, how many people are endorsing them, and how they don't even have to sell them @electronic stores.

I remember the possibly the first time I got interested and wanted a headphones was some skullcandy "skullcrushers" I think it was, had a AAAbattery mini amp and was supposed to be like a subwoofer experience. Never did try them, but I know it's all a sham now, proper headphones should already give you that. I really can't believe they dominate the market though, how do you stay nearly on top with sub-par sound?(Cause it's pimp dawg, you trippin? -Snoop D O double G.)

The founder(or who ever he was) they were talking to said that headphones take up a good amount of cranium real estate and they should look their best and noticed "most headphones were black"(he's got a point, HP's don't have to be ugly, but c'mon most nice phones simply look good on their own, some even make a statement without being flashy). Course most nice headphones aren't just solid black, just the ones he's trying to sound like lol.

But without question after watching that, flashy and appealing to a demographic is all they are F****** after. At least sony has the sense to do R&D.

Skullcandy has serious quality control issues, but yeah, I suppose if you get some Ink'd Buds that by some fluke of questionable manufacturing processes happen to actually sound decent, and don't mysteriously stop working after a month, they could be a real steal. Personally I would advise against buying anything bearing the Skullcandy logo, as chances are pretty good you'll wind up disappointed. Trust me, I have experience with this crap. A few years back I had three pairs of Skullcandy earphones in fairly rapid succession, trying to find one that was OK. One of those pairs had a physical defect that caused a pop-pop sound every time I'd insert the right bud, sort of like the sound you get when you press down on the lid of an unsealed jar... but right in your ear! Aaaargh! Another one, you could almost feel them about to come apart just holding them in your hands, that's how shoddily made they felt. On the third pair I finally conceded defeat when I realized my JVC HA-E170 (those cheap little clip-ons with the wind-up cord) sound better than that overpriced pair of fashion disasters. So, needless to say, I'm a little wary of products bearing that infamous skull logo.

One thing that I did find was how much better my Ink'ds sound than my friends. Maybe he played them at 10 too much , who knows. You may be right, time will tell.

Considering what you have and what skullcandy offers, would you rather have good soundquality or headphones that are in style? I am leaning towards good soundquality.

Those are the only skull candy I will buy. I don't really give a care about portable SQ, so I just buy those. Sometimes they have them at tj maxx for $10. They don't sound terriffic, but I don't have to worry about them getting broken.
