looking for power amp

Thread Starter
im about to buy a set of JBL ES30 bookshelf speakers and i was curious if anyone had any suggestions for a power amp.

i already have a headamp pico portable usb dac/amp to drive my sennheisers and it would be cool to also use that as a preamp. i want to connect everything to my laptop to have a better setup. im not sure what to look for, i just know i dont want to waste money and get something that might eventually break or whatever. the JBL's need 125 watts and im hoping to spend $350 at most for the power amp.

any help? i would appreciate anything.

good cable brands?

The JBL's can't possibly need 125 watts, unless youre mistaking bookshelf for public address Of course, most amps can handle that kind of power, so this is a null issue

I use a Marantz integrated stereo amplifier, which I absolutely love - you can find them in your price range no problem. Onkyo might be worth taking a look at, as well. I've had bad luck with NEC, though others swear by them (mine had a channel die)

Blue Jeans Cable is a great cable company, if you want to step up from stock/radio-shack stuff for higher build quality

Do you have a preamp to use with the power amp? I don't know if you can use the Pico for that.

You might be better off looking for a used/vintage receiver or integrated amp to power your speakers. I like receivers from NAD, Rega and Marantz. You can find used ones in your price range at Audiogon.
