Who do you think is America's greatest composer of song (Pre WWII) - Page 2

David. This is a very tough decision you are asking me to make! I chose R&H but they are all in my heart just as worthy of being number 1.
I don;t know if you have listened to Gershwin plays Gershwin when the man himself plays in a Yamaha Disklavier when his piano rolls were translated into the Yamaha. Rhapsody in Blue is out of this world. His own fingers doing the playing. Oh! and a few years ago got to see the original manuscript of Rhapsody in Blue at the Library of Congress. I was in awe......

'Noticed that the prolific Woody Guthrie didn't crack the list. I think he had sumptin' to do with the Dustbowl.

Yes, that would be great. I have tried to send you a PM before but your mailbox is always full. Let's meet up.

P.S.

Woody would definitely make it to a top ten, I just felt he did his best work during and after the War. Though he certainly deserves to be in a top ten............

How can it be possible that only Uncle Erik and I have voted in this scientifically ridiculous poll for SF? I mean people pleez. Oh Susanna? Beautiful Dreamer? Hard Times? Camptown F-ing Races? Top that.

Oh, and he died at 37. He's got to get extra points for that, no? (If you say no, google him and see how many cents he had in his pocket and give him an extra point for that.)

Doo-dah, doo-dah.

I'm surprised that I'm the only one who vote for Ellington/Strayhorn....

But How could no have voted for Hoagy Carmichael...... Stardust, Georgia On My Mind, Heart and Soul!

Haha, that was a funny response:-)
  • Skylark
In The Still Of The Night
    Rockin' Chair
    The Nearness Of You

I'll admit he's a lightweight compared to some of the others, but still I'm surprised to see no votes.....

Stardust is the most covered jazz standard of all time
Heart And Soul is along with chop sticks the most learned piano composition of the 20th Century
And Georgia on My Mind has transcended every genre to become one of the most beloved songs ever written.
