im about to shop around in mainland china while visiting my dad and would like to know what kind of numbers i should expect on the price tags of speakers. the model i am most interested in is the aurum cantus 2 that's going for $500 on ebay from a chinese seller. And if you guys know of any other high efficiency ribbon monitors from china i'm all ears.

anybody?... i really need to know their prices beforehand so that i can bring enough money... thx in advance.

I don't know the exact price of the aurum cantus 2 speaker in china. But the info might be useful for you is the exchange rate between US dollar and Chinese yuan is about 7. You can use 8 for little bit safe margin....

For me, I'd be looking to buy tube amps in China for cheap instead of speakers. Much easier to bring back and there's enough online vendors of quality speakers like Aperion, Hsu, Axiom, Ascend Acoustics, etc that can send it right to your door.

arent the speakers from china just as good a bargain as their amps in terms of price/performance? which is to say they're better deal than most western products since thats how i understand their amps to be. i wasn't all that impressed with aperions when i owned them anyways... right now im looking at aurum cantus 2s. i wouldn't wanna settle for anything less than ribbons. maybe ill choose to diy and hire a cabinet maker in china. that should also be very cheap. probably cheaper than making it myself in the states

hi guys im sorry to be beating a dying horse but im gonna be in china starting thursday and would like to know where i should go to get fair deals on their speakers. my dad whos been living there tells me he always gets high balled at audio shops in the area for being a foreigner. i wouldn't mind ordering off a chinese website but don't know where to begin. nor do i know what models are good. i'd appreciate any inputs from those experienced in this regard.

you may forget to mention which city you will be visiting.
China is a little bit way too big to travel just for a pair of good speakers

well im gonna be doing a lot of traveling for sightseeing- visting beijing, shanghai, qingdao, and several other locations that i cannot recall (my dad planned it out). so i'll be pretty much all over the place with plenty of opportunity to visit various shops. what i'd like to know is the general status of chinese speaker market. do they really charge foreigners more? internet purchase safe? ect. and any model recommandations you might have.

as long as you're getting it for cheaper than locally, it's a deal

the only chinese speakers i've listend to are JAS Audio and they're pretty good. however, i dont think they're in your price range.

Yes, you will be charged more for being a foreigner if the price is not listed. If the price is listed, you will be discounted less. Where ever you decide to buy, keep in mind that the price is always negotiable, regardless of the venue.
