That's what I heard. I am leaning towards the 300B as it is easily available, with silver transformers and the stepped attenuator...

Hi Brian,

Can you explain more what you mean by "balanced"?

Are you looking for amplifier to provide balanced drive of your HD800s OR are you seeking balanced input and balanced drive (not particular if the amplification is performed single ended or differential) OR are you seeking a differential amplifier, fully balanced input through output?

I only heard it briefly in Todd's room at CanJam so my impressions of it with the 800s are pretty limited. I'll be very interested in what 4N6 has to say about it going forward.
I was one with that impression but yes I will say that it was a short listen at Canjam where there was alot of noise and I don't remember if i was familiar with the music. Sitting down in an optimal environment and listening with music I know, a/bing would be a better deal. So yes i take credit for one of the statements, just didn't sound as full as others were with the 800s in that preview.

It just sounded lifeless with the HD800. From what I heard the separation was poor, it was lacking dynamics and didn't have much control over the bass. I don't know what source was behind it so of course that will factor into it, too.

How much time did you spend listening to it?

I am looking to get the benefits of balancing my hd800. That would either mean balanced input and balanced drive at the least or a differential amplifier, which I believe the Balancing Act is the former. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I hope that answers your question.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I will be in on the 2nd run of the Balancing Act. I went with the 300B option, silver transformers, and stepped attenuator. I'm excited and sure it will be worth the wait.

Don't let this stop the discussion. I look forward to more comparisons or comments.

Welcome to the team!
It is definitely his best amp he's ever made.
Heard from Craig that he'll finally start shipping perhaps by end of this week.
He also said he'll be bringing a finished BA to the norcal meet next weekend so lookout for impressions then.

Isn't he waiting to hear the stepped attenuators? I know he was considering adding those on and last night he said he hadn't heard it yet.

Base price for the 2nd run is $3500 and should ship late November if there are no delays. The other prices for the options are the same. So this configuration is $3825. Note the amp comes with a 6SN7 tube but you must purchase the others separately.

APC Type Power Conditioner, while you're at it, cause you're rich.

Congrats on your purchase of a Balancing Act! I look forward to seeing the production unit at the Nor Cal meet.

Responding to your comment, do note that balanced input is not a requirement to attain balanced drive. With transformer loaded single ended tube amps, the balanced output is derived via a center tapped secondary winding in the output transformer, yielding a differential, balanced signal.
