How big an impact does album cover art have on you - Page 4

Leonard Cohen is pretty hot. If you pretend that he's not Leonard Cohen, I mean.

Does Billy Joel have an album without his picture on it besides Streetlife Serenade and The Nylon Curtain? That dude is hot.

Ditto. I feel such covers speak loudly about the artists' lack of integrity. Also, I find glistening, poreless, photoshopped skin a huge turnoff.

I'm not saying you like this album, but I do.....

Jeff Buckley's Grace.......I'm pretty certain that most women (and some men) would say that Jeff Buckley was amongst the most attractive rock stars of all time, and his cover Grace is clearly supposed to be a sexy shot.....that said, the album is absolutely incredible. One of my all time picks.

Yeah. No integrity at all.

[Edited: Maybe the picture is little too risque. Go look up Roxy Music, Country Life for yourself.]

It doesnt really affect my enjoyment of the music, but i definitely like great album cover art.

I sometimes buy cds because of the cover art, and the cover art sometimes evokes emotions in me remembering events related to the music, but the art itself rarely impacts my opinion of the music itself, because I think more in sound than in sight.

The importance of artwork has been diminished with small package CDs.......

But in the old days with large vinyl album artwork often there were a series of connected images with front and back cover telling a story or giving us a "riddle" to solve, gatefolds had even more photos to ponder the meaning of.......

Often the album cover of record playing was on display below turntable or passed among friends to examine while music played

I do apreciate when graphic images are in harmony with theme of the music instead of just random image. For example I always like this album cover which speaks volumes about the music themes

Speaking of pondering picture or looking for riddles........do the windows and door in image above form an inverted crucifix, he he

It really depends, when I was younger, as in Pre-teens it undoubtedly had an impact, it caught your eye. Now that we are older and have our own developed musical niches'/likes and dislikes it really doesn't play a roll.

yep, I confess I am more influenced by the packaging (not only the cover art) than I should be: I am definitely more likely to enjoy an album in a slick digipack than a CD in a cardboard slipcase.

The presentation does not change the music, only my expectations...

I like cover art, but it doesn't change the way I listen to music.

Grace is one of my all-time favorite albums also, yet, in rare disagreement David, I find the cover lackluster. It is plain and ordinary to me. By ordinary, I mean it is not bad but not great. It merely is good in the way album covers are supposed to be. It reminds be of the album covers done for opera singers; straight forward face pics, unremarkable typefaces, with understandable but nonetheless, cliched signifiers. Albeit, Grace is the rocker equivalent.

It has a definite impact sometimes on my enjoyment of the music

Huh? Talk about an indecisive statement.

Sometimes, when I have an album that has art that I dislike, I'll replace it with another better picture of the singer/band..doesn't hurt anyone.

For me liner notes have a bigger impact than cover art. I love to read well written liner notes. I can take or leave cover art; though I do dig 50-60's Blue Note cover art.
