I had the ALO SXC Cryo ICs here for awhile. They were revealing but on the bright side in my system. And I know you have the same amp and headphones.

Great question -- I never thought to do an A/B or anything of the sort. I really liked Larry's SXC's, despite all the grief they get around here, but I preferred my Heimdall through the Stax Lambda/SRM-T1 when I later listened to it at home.

One thing I've always admired about Nordost was their belief in their own product. Every year they set up a demo at RMAF with an entire (excellent) system wired up with Valhalla/Odin interconnects, PCs, and Speaker cords except for the interconnect between CDP and Preamp. They start with in-the-box interconnects there, and work up to valhalla one step at a time. When I purchased the Baldur, I did so because that's the point above which I could no longer discern differences, though after extended listening I ended up with the Heimdall.

In a world of skeptics, often for good reason, it's refreshing to see a company lay everything out there for your inspection.

Once you get to Baldur, and above, in the Nordost line, you get exceptional musicality to go with the resolution and speed. These cables run counter to the stereotype of Nordost cables being really analytic and sterile. they are not as rich and bloom-y as Cardas, but they are not bright or sterile. you might also consider Audioquest, as they balance out all performance parameters so that nothing stands out or lags.

hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am very tempted with the Heimdall now and have the opportunity to get a pair for around $300. Still just a little hesitant due to the Nordost reputation for being bright and dry, and how the Heimdall will perform with vocals.

Cheers

Even with shipping to/from SA, you wouldn't take much of a loss at that price. The only way to really know is to listen in your own rig.

If you buy Heimdalls, they are very hard to find on Audiogon, so you'll be able to sell them easily for what you paid for them.

How about some of the dh labs cables. Any reason those arent on your list.

Thanks for the tip - which one would you recommend? I assume something like the Colorado 72V?
