Overrated: AKG 601

I don't know what people are hearing but to me they just have a lightweight, slightly plasticky sound. They're supposed to be a mid-centric phone but I still find they sound more distant and less real in that range than Sennheiser 595s.

The criteria should be the sound and build quality for the $ £ and may I be so bold to suggest sennheiser south of the HD600 even the HD 598 have that cheap plastic that likes to crack and as usual from senn overpriced by about £50 they are currently anywhere from £170-£200 which is just laughable max I'd pay for them brand new would be £100.In general all of senns stuff is overpriced.

Be careful. Sennheiser fan boys will be scratching at your back soon.

I don't think anyone can argue they aren't overpriced I'd like to see them try though.

Yeah seeing as they are somewhat overpriced and all the horror stories of Sennheiser breaking, I have not bought any. I am the kind of person the chooses best for money every time. At least I try to anyways.

I'd agree with most senns, but that could be partially because I don't enjoy the house sound.  The M50s have also gotten a lot more buzz than they really deserve too.

...aaaand I can't really think of anything too underrated atm.

Underrated for under $60

The Pioneer SE M390

Good Bassy cans. Also very durable.

^I have the SEM380's (the 390's predecessor, same candy, different wrapper) And yes they deserve a little more love.

Underrated; Portapros (Underrated lately) they are every bit as awesome as the hype from the days of old. MDR-CD2000's Noone has heard of them, but they are my favorite, followed by the Portapro's

Overrated; M50's, BARELY better than the portapros for 3-4 times the cost and no lifetime warranty, and yes I got to play with them throughly.

Bose Triports, YES THEY ARE ACTUALLY THAT BAD!!!

As for Sennheiser, the audio quality is not overpriced, but the build quality is. I had a pair of Sony MDR-CD3000's and the build quality fit and finish blows ANYTHING made by Sennheiser clean out of the water, and I have the HD650's and HD800's (The fact that the CD3000's shared some parts with the R10's might of had something to do with it).

Well It's mainly the budget end of senns I am talking about but yea if I am spending £100 + on headphones I don't want to see cheap plastics used and especially around the stress point of the headband with that outdated weak design they still use.
