BTW, I found stock Westone Comply (light grey) to be the worst sounding tips.

Wow, that is high. I paid 130 for my pair.

Ok, just got back from gym. The seal never lost after 15 minutes of jogging, there isn't any footsteps and microphonic I notice at all.

custom tips, to put it simply; by removing the ear canal from the equation, remove any inconsistencies that may arise out of resonances in the ear that alter the balance of sound produced by the driver/s. thus tending to smooth out any peaks and inconsistencies that arrive by fit/angle and seal problems. as a nice byproduct they increase the distance from the driver to the eardrum, which tends to help out with soundstage size.

How did you get that cheap? $120 for the materials, and I would imagine at least another $100 for the impressions and doctors/office fee. That's too steep for me right now. $220 is a hell of a lot of pairs of complys....

The materials definitely don't cost $120! I'm sure there are ear mold providers that make lower margins and offer their molds for quite a bit cheaper.

I also think the audiologist fee is something like $50 based on some reading before, but I'm not certain.

ive heard as low as 25 bucks for the impressions so i think it depends on where you live.

I got mine from a local audiologist who is a Westone dealer. (I didn't get Westone, but they had them as an option) They handle everything. They do the impressions, ship them, get the molds back, and you go to their office to check the fit and take them home.

I wonder if they can shell my UM3X into a custom (ES3X) since the spec data show identical for UM3X and ES3X. of course lower price than getting ES3X :P

my ear is definitely different from yours. I found Comply P-tip to be best for me because it provide much better seal than any other tips I tried.

Got emailed a quote from a local place newport audioligy center. I dont have to pay for the impressions and they are 60 a piece so 120 for the whole thing. Not too bad price. Gonna call and make an appointment here in a couple months maybe if i can get some spare change.
