Will a Custom Tip ALWAYS Sound & Seal Better Than a Comply/Foamie?

Just wondering.....no real complaints with complys. I work out using them (with UM3X) and they stay put and may actually serve another purpose in perhaps absorbing a little sweat. I worry that a custom might not stay sealed. I guess I am wondering if anyone thought they didn't really gain anything?

I can't imagine a situation where my um56 tips would not stay sealed...not sure how to explain this, but it's a deep seal... even if they moved around a bit (which they don't) the seal would remain intact. I don't think you'll find anyone who feels they didn't gain anything.... the gains are many... and not subtle.

and let me know if you will hear your foot step loud, foot step, microphonic and price are 3 main factor that make me hesitate in getting a custom tips or IEM

do you like the w3 or um3x better with the um56? did the custom bring out the mids any more with the w3? sorry kinda offtopic just curious.

BTW you guys are brave i wont even use my w3's within an hour after a shower im paranoid about getting water on them lol. I use crappy ones at the gym.

^^^^ UM3X.... a bit more transparent.... a bit more detail... more neutral. But they're both great.... btw, the W3's, I believe, gain more from the UM56 than the UM3X.

EDIT: I don't mean to suggest the the UM3X's don't benefit from the custom tips... they do. But the W3's seem to benefit more.

Certainly understandable as W3's poor design in shortening the nozzle length has given the majority of users all kinds of fit/sound issues.

thanks alot for the answer. Im waiting on some different tips to come in but if i cant find a perfect fit i might go that direction that wya i dont have to buy new tips every couple months. Plus seems i will gain on sound quality which in itself is worth it.

Did the um56 bring out the mids a bit more on the 3's? thanks for the help.

Glad to read about W3s and UM56. My appt. is next Tuesday for molds. I have finally caved, but the UM56s are $200 all told here in Philly. $95 per ear and $15 shipping. Ugh. I only paid $240 for the W3s new. So I hope this works.

holy cow why so high? I thought they were like 119 for reg. colors and 132 or so with marbel or special colors? I thought about going this route but ill sell the 3's for 250 or so and throw the 240 on top for full customs if thats the case.

WOW! I certainly hope they make a notable improvement at that price.

I am pretty sure they are entirely different from universal tips, in a good way. Universal tips tend to have high and low pressure points whereas the UM56 distributes even pressure (and by pressure, you must understand it is likely infinitesimal in this case) throughout the middle ear. Given the distributed contact, the seal should always be better than any universal tip could provide as long as the impressions were correct.

That is really high. In Denver they go for $105 complete for both ears.

I use ER-4S and tried dozens of various universal tips. Custom tips beats them all both in terms of SQ and seal. Then I tried Ety glider tips and they are on par or better. I think they fit your Westone too.
