Bolan described the song as a "festival of life song" and that he related "Metal Guru" to "all gods around...someone special, a godhead. I thought how god would be, he'd be all alone without a telephone".
Metal Guru is it you, Metal Guru is it you
Sitting there in your armor plated chair, oh yeah
Metal Guru is it true, Metal Guru is it true
All alone without a telephone, oh yeah
Metal Guru could it be you're gonna bring my baby to me
She'll be wild you know a rock and roll child, oh yeah
Metal Guru has it been, just like a silver-studded sabre-tooth dream
I'II be clean you know pollution machine, oh yeah
Metal Guru is it you, Metal Guru is it you
Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, rock!
Metal Guru could it be you're gonna bring my baby to me
She'll be wild you know a rock and roll child, oh yeah
Metal Guru is it you, Metal Guru is it true
All alone without a telephone, oh
Metal Guru could it be you're gonna bring my baby to me
She'll be wild you know a rock and roll child, oh yeah
Metal Guru is it you, Metal Guru is it you, yeah, yeah, yeah
Metal Guru is it you, yeah, yeah, yeah
Metal Guru is it you, yeah, yeah, yeah ....
Metal Guru T-Rex
So what would be your all time favorite T-Rex Album and why? This would be the one that do to space saving reasons, could be the only one you could take to an island. This would be one you could hear every day if you had to.

I know some folks will choose Electric Warror.
For me it has to be The Slider. There was this huge poster at the Warehouse record store in Belmont Shore Long Beach, California when the record came out. As a kid in the early teens a big poster like the cover of The Slider was dramatic. Bolan was looking down on you from this grain-filled hazy rockstar realm. "Who is this guy?" We had no older friends to ask. All we had was that power of the poster. "Come on this has to be good, Look at it for God's sake!"
So I purchased the 8 track, if you were young and only had one 8 track that's all you played. My folks had Elvis 8 tracks, but I had T-Rex, yes this stuff was new, yes this stuff was cool. After school everyday....The Slider. The Slider.....What do the words mean? They have a funny way of going into my mind and drawing pictures. This guys voice is like no other. Kind of airy, kind of ruff, kind of smooth. His voice sticks with you somewhere in your imagination, somewhere in your memory. The songs are really simple, they are like folk songs mixed with rock drums, and electric guitar that comes in at the perfect time. Everything has the coolest sound. It's rock but also kind of funky too, it has a groove that's held down by that strong bass guitar. The low bass guitar makes his voice sound even higher than it is. What a mixture! This is the stuff from across the Atlantic. There are these violins that come in from time to time that really make the songs big. The Stones had a big violin break where the guitar lead could have been in the song Angie right around this same time. The strings made The Slider a big sonic statement. They gave a mood to the whole album.
So.... Yes I could still hear The Slider for many more years to come. Is the album really that great? I'm going to guess that Electric Warror will rule here. The deal with music is though, you experience it and it becomes part of your life unmoveable from the time you first played it. So I was this lonely kid after school playing 8 tracks. My parents had a party one night and maybe because of limited choices, the Adults found The Slider, they were drinking and laughing, if you remember, 8 tracks just never stop playing they go on and on. So that's what they did that night but played The Slider, on and on.
