Amp3 is both a DAP and an amp

Since no one has posted here about it, there is an intriguing new amp (and a music player as well) on the market. It's called the Amp3 (from a Chinese maker name HiAudio). I own one, and use it primarily as a DAP. But today, I tried it out with my Touch 2G and LOD, and I think it rivals my Minibox (which I sold recently) and outperforms the T4 (which I sold today).

One or two Amp3 owners are really using it more as an amp, not a player. It's a very quirky, weird box, and will try your patience (small screen, slow response, freezes here and there, etc.). But once you get into the 150+ burn-in zone, it really begins to deliver some amazing sound. Anyway, I just wanted to cross-reference the thread on the portable source gear thread, since it is an amp as well. Best thing, pretty cheap with an intro price of $150. You can read about some owner experiences here:

Thanks for posting this. I did come across it before on Head-Fi but it didn't generate much interest at that point.

I shall check it out again.

Some folks who have it (Germania, average_joe) use it primarily as an amp. I use it as both an amp and a DAP, but it has very good SQ for the price in my view (and that of other owners).

How's the build quality? I'm wary of this because if you mention it still has significant problems, I worry about the long term outlook.

I have just read the entire thread and associated reviews. Also checked out ÉîÛÚÊкºÉùÒôÏìÓÐÏÞ¹«Ë¾
I am confused by the model choices, as to what the distinctions are between them.

Namely Rock, Amp3, Golden Hall and Master. Are these other models available for purchase?

Though the AMP3 at $149 seems good value I need more information on the other models. Also my present rig is a H140/D10 combo and I would love/need to see a comparison made with the AMP3.

So although I am not yet sold on one, I would take very little convincing.

Its said that there is no multiple models.. there's just one, the Amp3.. the website is supposed to have been updated to reflect that

Though I don't own it, I very much doubt it could beat the H140/D10 combo, though it could possibly match it for something a lot smaller. Capacity however, will be an issue

If all I had was my Sansa Clip then I would go for it but, having just spent over $625 on H140/D10/SysConnect, I am reluctant to spend again unless there is an undoubted benefit.

OK, thanks for the clarification, i don't think the website has yet been updated.

They are supposedly releasing a new model sometime in the future. This is supposed to be the "low end" model. ... if only it were cheaper...

All I gotta say is I am glad I purchased this. I am using it as an amp for many reasons, but I have to say as an amp I think it sounds better than other amps I have auditioned. I know that isn't the best comparison since I have been able to spend a lot more time with the AMP3, but I don't remember the other amps being this big of an improvement.

Could just be the synergy with some of my HPs, as it makes the IE8, SHE9500, and KSC75 sound amazing while the NuForce UF-30 and NE-7 sound worse with it. The 200v sounded better, but not by nearly as much as the first 3 mentioned.

IMO, even if you use it just as an amp, great value for $149!
