Haha, some days ago I was wondering about this. My setup isn't "very good" by any means (AKG K 240 MKII with CMoy and a good CD player) but sometimes it still shows details I don't particularly enjoy and since I noticed this I kind of avoid "bad" records... Still there's not that much of a change. For example I always liked the bands Tool and A Perfect Circle very much, but since I've got better headphones I'm totally in love with these bands. Especially 'Lateralus' sounds just awesome in my opinion.

And damn... RHCP is a hard one. Californication is hands down one of my favorite albums, but I heard the clipping even with a cheap setup. Vinyl rescued me here

Well, I'm a big Dylan fan so you can guess my answer

Talking about bad recordings, did anybody have a chance to listen to the new Beatles remastered release? That is a good example for my better gear making it worse for me to listen to music I would like if the recording would be better. I only listened to a view songs yet (there is about 260?). They have done a lot to these new releases, lifted the loundness, so that the loudest peaks are about -5 to -3 dB (on audacity), and changed a lot of other things, I can't even describe, but for example A hard days night old release (original 1 release about 7 ears ago) sounds a lot harsher, hurt my ears. The new release is warmer, the right channel is lower, on the whole the sound is, less " cluttered" or Ob-la di Ob-la da even sounds like a different recording, the high hats a far less pronounced, the clapping hands sound more real. This new, warmer? production will make me listen more to the old songs again, I am no Beatles fan, so many songs sound flat, shrill and "cheap" to me, good music, bad recording.....

Couldn't agree more.

Bad music has no place in my life.

I'll take the poorly recorded good music.

Good music, no doubt. Oh man, no overrated and overused music, please.

Good music with bad sound quality OF COURSE. Is there really someone who answers otherwise?

Yeah, would anyone here really want to listen to the new Britney Spears piece of trash, even if it was engineered as well as Dark Side of the Moon?
